Why would Todd lie? Its not like he owns UNI filters or anything.
OK, I've used K&N filters for years and years. Since I ride sand, I ride with an outwears over the filter. They have worked just fine for me, and I have noticed very little sand get past them. The key to them is keep them oiled and use an outwear on them at all times. I have a long record of defending K&N filters, at least for sand use.
Having said that, It is well known when you get in to really fine dust that the K&N will let some of this dirt by. This is not a big secret. Todd was only pointing that out, and it is very noteworthy since the FST is open and has no airbox for at least some protection from dust. I understand the vendors pay to be able to advertise within the forums, but having someone point out that it could cause thousands of dollars in engine damage, if you did not know about the very fine dust infiltration with K&N, even a freshly oiled one... I don't see the problem with that. Its a fair warning, but perhaps not in the same thread.
I read on the other forum that Todd is not planning to post here anymore..

I'm assuming because of this... That will be a big loss to this forum, since Todd seems more concerned with bringing out products he can prove works, rather than just putting out products only for the sake of profit. That is very refreshing to see in a vendor.
Oh, and to test out the K&N to see if it passes dirt? Just smear some white grease in a fine coating inside the air tract, just inside of where the filter sits... I did this, and it made me a believer in the Outerwears when riding in sand... yes, I saw sand particles embedded in the white grease without the Outerwears on.
