That is a very slick setup.
I can see myself with one of those in the future. I am pretty anal at this point and change the oil after every weekend of riding. I know the day will come when I have an 840, it'd be nice to have all the supporting mods in place before I drop the cash for it.
Ya know these things are bigger money pits than any boat or hot rod I have ever owned...LOL

if i mounted it flat under the hood will it still cool the oil enough and will that allow the hot oil to drain out?

It would still be way better than not having it, although not as good as in direct airflow. However, the large surface area on our cooler kits will allow it to work better in a dead are space than other coolers.

If it was at a small angle with the fittings towards the back, there would be no trouble with the cooler gravity draining. When the coolers do gravity drain, it makes checking the oil level properly a real challenge.

We have these in stock by the way.

I am working on a set up under the hood with a remote fan, you can install a couple of valves to control flow to assist in checking the oil but this is a very clean simple set up.

I would imagine if you do that you could go bigger since space is not an issue?

For sure, there is plenty of room on the top frame.
