Tell me what it could be.

I was driving my teryx and it made a popping sound and then it felt like it went into neutral. Is it the belt broke or the transmission gone? It sounded like metal rolling around in the transmission. What will it cost to rebuild the transmission?

First thing I would check is the belt. There is an inspection plate under the passenger seat. If your belt is good you may have a bigger problem. When you shift into Hi/Low/Reverse does it feel like it grabs a gear?

It don't feel like it is crabbing a gear. It felt like the trans fell out when it made the banging noise. The machine jerked and then there was nothing.

Whats up in Douglas?

mine did the same thing. It is the tranny sounds like to me. That what mine was, had to replace what I call the pinion and ring gear, both were gone. and while you got it split open be sure and check the oil pump. Mine was toast all the metal shaving from the gear busting. Do not crank it are further damage may happen

How much was the ring and pinion gear? I think that is what it is going to be.

I think it was around 300 bucks for labor and all. Hard for me to say because I ended up doing a bore kit on mine while it was out and apart. Like I said the metal shavings eat up my oil pump and I shut mine off as soon as it popped and did not crank it back up. So be careful, you might want to go thru all the internals while it is out and apart. You have got to have a special tool to work on the pinion also. Good Luck

Is there a compartment that separates the transmission from the engine? I know the oil lubricates both the trans and the engine.

It was just the belt broke in about 10 pieces. I only have about 182 hours on it.
