Fuel atv syphon break review on my 840...

Let me start out by saying this, if your considering an 840 kit read this thread, without FUEL ATV'S syphon break kit you may encounter a lot of unnecessary headaches.

Chad,

It has been quite a ride and I think I have finally, "the fix", I have been looking for! I owe you all the credit man, its been quite some time since we first spoke and finally today, I have your kit installed. The kit included your syphon break tank, what I believe to be some type of hydrolic hose, a couple anodized fittings and a whole lot of generosity from you.

To keep this story as brief as I can my experience with the Teryx has been amazing, well sorta... When I purchased this machine I had all kinds of plans for a big bore 840 kit, this was sprung upon me due to a technicality after having an air filter kit installed. (that is not why we are here and it is all listed on another thread which can be found here KMS Review = My 840 Build 840 Blowing Oil from Syphon Break )

Prior to my 840 build I had added the UTV inc syphon break to stop the oil return into the plenum. After the 840 build I went to the YFZ 450 tank as a syphon break to increase the capacity due to the BIG BORE. After some tuning and tweaking, messing with the RPM's etc.. I blew oil out of the vent lines, to the point I had to carry a few bottles of oil just to get through a ride. I researched just about everything I could and we tested just about everything with the build. I tried different octanes, a new set of pistons, o-ringed the heads, performed a leakdown test checked blow by and also had the cylinders checked out. It appeared the crank case pressure was just too much and the capacity of the YFZ 450 tank was not enough. We tried the drain back system adding a drain line from the tank back into the inspection cover hole. This was by way of a brass fiting drilled into the inspection cover. (It was obviously not the correct size) I am not sure the size of the fitting but I have attached a picture for your viewing.

It was with great frustration and a lot of determination I continued to try and find a fix for this issue. I was seriously close to just selling the Teryx because I was annoyed at the oil loss and cost of keeping oil in the engine. It was I think our umpteenth text message or private message on the forum that you let me know you had a kit for me.

I received the kit which I was very impressed with, Kelly at KMS was also very impressed with the kit.

During Installation we ran into a hiccup where we had to purchase another 12AN 18mm x 1.5 fitting. I did this and had it overnighted from California. Upon receiving the fitting we found the outside diameter was too big to insert into the 90 degree elbow. (They sent me the wrong size fitting) Kelly immediately started the ban saw and cut both fittings then grinded the anodized finsih off and welded them together. We now had the correct fitting and only lost about twenty five minutes. After welding we installed the tank and all fittings in about 15 minutes. I chose not to run a filter on the syphon tank itself, however, I ran a line to the back of the passenger seat where an inspection of oil loss is easy to see. I added a filter to the end of this line and it actually dumps out under the bed... or does it? In theory it should dump out there but the kit actually works and drains back so it does not dump out at all. Smoke and Mirrors???? NOPE The problem is solved, At least the problem I had is solved and all the credit goes to you and FUEL ATV!!

I took a lot of pictures, one of them is Kelly flipping me off many of them I think you and others will find useful. The last pictures I took I decided to label your tank with your web address. I ripped the teryx around today pretty hard after we spoke on text. I have zero oil loss from the breather line. Prior to installing this kit I would have had a lot of oil loss. After close to six months of frustration I can say with certainty your kit does everything you claimed it would do, the fit and finish is excellent and it installs in minutes.

Thank you very much for all the support and technical advice. For anyone looking for the correct syphon break system, in my opinion, this is THE ONLY WAY TO GO don't hesitate and cause yourself unnecessary frustration, spend the money and buy this kit because it works!

Special thanks to Chad, this is one hell of a kit! Chad will post pictures via photobucket because I have exceeded my limit and have no idea how to use photobucket.

Waytay, Chris @ Benchmark, SandJunkie and Kelly at KMS were all very helpful with advice along the way so thanks to you all also.

Thank you TWIST! Here are the first few photos of the complete system. NO modifications or seperate brackets are needed to mount this kit and it fits under the stock engine covers and bolts directly in place of the stock syphon tank. There has been a ton of testing done on this system and all I can say is that IT WORKS.

The kit contains the following components:
18mmx1.5 to 10AN adaptor
#10AN 90* pushlock
#10AN 45* pushlock
#10 pushlock hose
FuelATV SyphonBreak Tank
5/8" Breather Filter

I wasn't paying attention when I was grabbing fittings to send out and I ended up sending him a 20mmx1.5 to #10 adaptor. Thanks to Kelly they were able to fabricate to the correct fitting without much delay.

I am still at a loss to why some Teryx engines have more problems than others. I have seen completely stock engine blow oil into the plenum and I have also seen fully built engines that haven't blown a drop of oil. What I do know is that I have tested several different syphon break systems over the last few years, most seem to take care of smaller problems but none had the capacity or the design to take care of the biggest problems. Brian at LTI and TWIST will atest to that.

There are a few key items that make this kit work.
1. The size of the fittings and return hose: Allows enough oil flow
2. The routing of the return hose and angle of fittings: No restrictions
3. The FuelATV tank itself: It may look like just a tank but there are some internals that allow the tank to work as well as it does and no it isn't rocket science internals but we have made a few changes during testing to make it work without hicup.

Hey Chad does anything need to be tapped into the motor or is everything bolt up. What if you have the plenium plugged already?

Gitrdone, it is all bolt up no drilling tapping or headaches. My Plenum was plugged we just removed the plug and the fuel ATV catch can slides right in. It will literally take you longer to remove your seats belts and plastics than to install this product. The inspection hole for the return line is threaded and the fitting screws right in the caps place. Its very thought out and simple to install.

No tapping into the motor, just remove the inspection plug and thread in the fitting. The plug will need removed from the plenum. Even though the tank is not open to the plenum we do use a machined plug to help hold the tank in place instead of just the two mounting tabs.

If you want a tank without the plug I can build one without it.
