Engine Oil

I know a lot of guys are running Amsoil including myself my question does anyone use anything else and have you had good luck with it. I was thinking of going to Shell Rotella T6 Synthetic 5w-40. I know that Kawasaki calls for 10w-30 if I remember right.

Kawasaki gives ranges on the oil for what temperatures you are running in. Why the want to change?

I ran maxima 10-40 for a long time... A few months back I switched to Mobil 1 synthetic 10-30... I did this because I got tired of running different oils in everything I own... Now I just run that stuff in everything... No problems... The main problem people have with oil on these things is not which kind... but they can't seem to keep oil in them... I check my oil everyday I ride.

I run Rotella in pretty much everything except the Rex so just looking at my options. It's not a price thing with Amsoil cause I am a dealer just looking at something that I can get pretty much anywhere. Just curious what everyone else is running.

Only thing I've heard about running diesel oil in common sump engines is the high detergents in the oil can weaken the soft metals in the transmission (shift forks)

Just curious... It's a 10w-30 synthetic right? Why would that be no bueno in comparison to a 10w-40 synthetic... I know the manual calls for a 10w-40, but what gives? What could you be possibly hurting by running a 10-30?

I was just at my dealer, and they told me not to use Synthetic Oil in the Teryx, we should only be using the mineral oil. If the dealer is saying this, then it's probably right, they do work on these machines every day. Something to think about....

Just keep oil in it guys! It's not that hard. You can put 50K miles on a car engine with no major problems if you keep it full.

The weight of the oil defines the film strength inside the engine. In other words, the OEM does a tolerance study and based on the study defines how "thick" or "thin" the oil needs to be. Temperature play a role too...so by running a lighter weight oil, you might not have enough film strength to prevent metal to metal contact...run too thick and you can cause the engine to load too much, which raises temperatures and can harm components. Make sense?

from my awesome HTC on Verizon
