Radiator fan problem

Let me start I have a 2008, and the fan will not come on. I am not sure if it is the switch, relay or maybe even a bad fan. I have tried to reset the green button under the driver seat and it doesn't do anything. I think I am just going to by pass it to a switch and turn it on when I am riding. But my question is what do I bypass?

What is this plug? It is the wire that runs to the fan, is this the one to bypass? If so HOW?

Next let me ask what is this on the driver side of radiator, there is 2 wires one is a solid blue wire and the other is blue and white. Which one goes on top and bottom?

Could either of these be my problem? Thanks for the help, got a ride this weekend and it just started this!!

Ok I have done some reading.. If I understand right if i put those 2 wires going to the driver side of radiator the fan should come on if the fan is good correct?

First thing, make sure that bottom wire is completely pushed in. If that connection is loose, you fan won't come on.That is the thermo switch sensor.

I have checked Fuses under the seat and they are all good. I have tried to push that reset button and nothing. How could I check that relay?

The second picture (drivers side) is the fan switch. To check it, pull the two wires off and check for 12V on the blue/white wire. If there is 12V then your circuit breaker is good. Short the two wires together...your fan should turn on, if not there is a problem with your fan. If no 12V, then you need to check the ciruit breaker. Doesn't matter which wire goes on top/bottom, its a simple switch. Its hard to test the switch cause you need get the coolant temp >205F (point the switch will close to turn on fan).

To bypass your switch, be sure to place your "override" after the circuit breaker. You want that load protection in case mud/crap load down your fan motor. Much better to pop the breaker than the 30A main fuse!

Ok it looks like my circuit breaker is bad, last night I had a test light and didn't get anything in either of those 2 wires going into the radiator. How can I test the circuit breaker? Or replace it with something?

Make sure you have 12v before breaker then after breaker you can also check fan relay by switching it with another

Ok looks like my sensor in the radaitor is bad, I can pull them 2 wires off and touch them together an the fan works. SO now how do I wire them to a switch so I can turn it on while driving the car?

Make sure you have 12V on the white wire to the breaker. Pull the circuit breaker and measure across the two terminals, should be shorted when its reset. If open then its bad.

thanks guys, i got it fixed it was the sensor in the radiator, i guess it went bad and wouldnt let the fan turn on, i by-passed it with a switch for now until i can get a new sensor from my dealer. Guess i will just have to run the fan the whole time the bike is running. Does anyone think this is a bad idea? Thanks for all the help

Shouldn't be too bad in the summer, but certainly the winter is a different story depending on where you ride.

If you've got a water temp gauge, you can turn it on and off when you need to.

we usually ride in no colder than 50 degrees, we usually ride in 70-100 degree weather. That is next on the list some gauges and dash panel from blackrhino. thinking i am going to do water temp, volt meter and oil pressure??

Running the fan constantly while the car is rummimg is no problem at all. I bypassed my switch a few years ago and directed it to the ignition. As soon as I turn the key on my fan turns on. It helps keep the car a little cooler. Glad you got the issue resolved

Im having the same problem. I did as you said, and touched the two wires together. When I touch them together, I can hear a little click up by the fan, which Im assuming is the fan motor, but the fan doesnt come on. I stuck my hand up in the fan, and tried to turn it manually (with motor off, of course), and it tight. Cant even begin to turn it. Shouldnt the fan spin freely, with everything off? Im guessing a new fan is in my future... LOL.

yes the fan should spin freely, maybe you can give it a little kick start and touch the wires together at the same time and break it lose.. could be mud/dirt keeping it from spinning. If that doesnt work you can buy aftermarket fans for about 125$ that has a higher CFM so you will get a little more cooling out of it.
