Still Smoking...

Well after a big ride a while back my ride over heated a few times an died out. Well come to find out it was low on oil. Got it all back running and then it started smoking out of the rear cylinder. So after tearing the motor apart and replacing the rings(the rears were bad come to find out anyways) and honing the jug out to clean it and putting it all back together...it still smokes. But it does not smoke like the rings are bad right from the get go. It has to warm up like it takes a while to get oil into the cylinder as if the valve seals are leaking, I think. Anyone think it could be the same thing? Or any other ideas?

You think that old residue once heated up could do that? My only problem with that is when we rev it up, it acts like its coming out of the motor. I'm guessing.

Do you have a siphon break installed? If not, when you rev it up this pushes oil out the breakther and into you intake plenum.

No I don't. And it did this right after rebuilding it. And it's only out one side. I've been wanting to get one but I don't think that's the problem here. I don't think.

You are exactly right. I've got slip on HMF exhaust so I took off the rear side and let it get hot. No smoke at all after Reving it up and what not. Slipped on the exhaust and let it get hot and sure enough out pours the smoke. When it got hot and the rings went bad it probably forced oil out and sat in the bottom of the exhaust. Thank you so much for that idea. It saved me from ripping the rear head back off and a lot more money.
