Teryx wont go into gear

Well I finally took my brand new Teryx (2014 Teryx 4 800) out and had some fun. This thing is AMAZING. Until it wouldn't go into gear.

I rode it all day and got stuck, I tried backing up and pulling forward a few times but honestly never shifted without coming to a stop first (this thing is brand new, and I was babying it!)

It all of a sudden stop engaging forward or reverse and head a noice coming from inside the belt area. I started taking it apart on the trail to try and see if it was something fixable, but stopped as I forgot I have a warranty, why not use it!!

My question is, have any of you had an issue like this? Any idea what it could be?

It makes a noise like something is loose in there whenever the engine is running, even if in nuetral. Putting it into any gear makes the noise a bit worse.

Thanks in advance for any help!

That sucks, I had a problem with the first one I bought
I Originally bought a yellow one but had to take it back because there was water in the oil . My wife flipped out on them so they give me a new Aztec red
I like the red one better anyway

Does it have a metallic sound or what? I would say you may have blown the belt but I'm not sure how that would prevent it from shifting gears.

I have noticed on my 2013 LE that sometimes it is hard to get into gear. I had to "rock" it back and forth a bit in my driver seat. Im going to try letting it warm up for a few minutes instead of just hitting it. Ill let you know what I find out.

It very well could be the belt, if it is, there's gotta be another problem that caused the belt to go, this thing has less than 5 hours on it most likely (didn't check the hours after the ride.)

I didn't describe the issue well though, the shift shifts into every gear, and you can feel it shift, the machine just doesn't not even try to move.

It almost sounds like a belt issue, but it is even making the noise at idle.

I cleaned it off pretty good so the dealer has an easy time working on it, and I'm taking it down today. So frustrated, but I really hope this is something they can fix quickly and get back out there, because up until the breakdown this thing was proving itself to be worth every penny.

Sounds like you blew the belt. There are several guys on here that are shredding belts on their first ride in the new 14's. I'm sure they will chime in. I hate that for you. And so far, no recall. I really hope Kawi steps up on this one. Don't back down from them. Do your homework on here and don't the no for an answer. 2014 TERYX 4 Depression check out this thread.

Wow, great info. I really hope the dealership will stand by a product they took out of a crate on Saturday and broke down Sunday. I was far from riding WOT and it was FREEZING out, the first thing we did in the woods was build a fire to have a place to warm up.

I did some google searches for tranmission/belt issues and nothing came up, thanks for sharing that thread!

I already dropped it off. I hosed it off to make it easy for them to work on, but it needs a good detailing still. I am so frustrated, but the dealership seems so far to be genuinely concerned and doing their part to get it fixed in a timely manner.

I've got a good friend who was out with us on his Sportsman that is ready to make the switch to a side by side (Unfortunately he wont be going with Kawi after watching mine break down.) I let the dealer know he is pretty much waiting to see how this is handled to choose his dealer. Hopefully they appreciate me trying to send them more business in the midst of all this!

I bought one of then original 08's and at first it looked like our fun was going to be ruined by concerns over belts. If you snapped a belt or a clutch lost its grip this will be fixed. Every new model has its quirks, but the 14 Teryx has the potential to be a truly worry free ride. Don't stress too much. I know its either a run of bad belts or a clutch issue that vforce john will only make better than it was ever designed to be.

Well they called and said the belt "exploded." I don't know much at all about CVTs so I asked if anything else was damaged or would need replaced and he said he didn't think so. He then said the belt was 2.5 weeks out! I've always maintained my own vehicles/equipment so I am not used to anything taking that long...I was bummed when I thought I would be getting it back this weekend and would have to wait all week.

I am really surprised a belt would snap like this on our first trip out, especially the kind of riding we did. I really hope it was a batch of bad belts and we don't have this problem going forward...

2.5 weeks to wait for a belt. That tells you something. There is a big problem. Hopefully it is just a matter of time for a recall for you guys with 14's. Shredding a belt on the first ride is unacceptable. I have over 2,000 miles on my 2012 original belt and haven't really been easy on it.

Anyone who stumbles upon this thread may want to check out this one too:

2014 Teryx4 recall - anyone else heard about it?

I now see why the dealer told me my belt "exploded" because it did!! I've never seen this before. I'm going to call today to make sure they check real close to confirm no other damage was caused in there.

Update: Talked to the dealer this morning, he admitted to finding out I am not alone with this issue, and said it would still be a couple weeks to get a belt. He is pulling one from another unit to put on mine and I should have it back on Thursday.

So far the support from the dealership has been great and Kawi seems to be attempting to fix the issue, but nothing is out there yet. I appreciate the timely temporary fix, almost as much as I appreciate my great friends for sticking with me for the several hours it took to get this thing out of the woods. But that's all this is, a temporary fix, I'm not sure my friends will be available every time I take this thing out! Come on Kawasaki, figure this thing out and get us some new belts or whatever we need!

Snorkel the CVT intake and you may fix this on your own.

I have heard all belts for the 12-13-14 are recalled from sale. This is why they are not available. kawy is claiming a bad batch of Bando belts??

new OEM belts will be available soon with a new part number. 59011-0033 I believe they said? that will be replaced.

I am strongly considering the snorkel, at first it sounded like a definite, but I have a couple hang ups. I want to talk to the dealer and make sure it will not void any warranty. Does anyone know the answer to that??

Also, after hearing about my problem with the belt in a little more detail, I didn't suck water in to the CVT and I also have to hope it didn't overheat, as the ambient air temp was probably in the high teens low 20s and occasionally got some extra cooling.

I guess I am asking if you guys think the larger vent tube will actually keep this CVT cool in the summer compared to what the stock one was capable of doing in the winter?

I'm no engineer so maybe I am missing some other crucial point??

I appreciate any input at this point, so glad I found this forum!

I saw this and got hopeful, but my dealer couldn't get any of this info from Kawi so my gut reaction to the internet is to doubt until proven true, this started with "I have heard" also. I am new here so I have no clue who anyone is, and how credible anyones statements are yet.... I mean no offense to VFORCEJOHN, for all I know he could be CEO of Kawi and here to help.

Same here, but I have a little less miles. 1700 or so. Doesn't make any sense why Kawi would change something that was working well.
