Mickey
It may not need to be that high (though Highlifter racers may tell you different) but higher than the stock opening, say above the steering wheel/seat would be great for most.
I don't have scuba gear when I ride, so above my head when I am harnessed into the seat, doesn't do much for me. There is a few snorkle kits done on this forum. Most seem to go to the middle of the X in the cage cross bracing.
If the air box could be set up to attached to standard ABS plumbing that would be great. ie 2 2" pipes, or 3"-5" lines or what ever those big carbs need for air.
Flexible rubber elbows or flanges (such as Fernco) from the box work good for a starting point, as they allow some flex from motors and other parts shifting when you ride and keep everything sealed.
Thanks for looking into it and I'm looking forward to the kit.

i've been real busy lately, but the carbs are on and it idles and revs fine, i went with the 39s by the way. the stock intake boots and the stock air box fit great no mods needed. i'll get the new throttle cable put together tomarrow and start dialing the carbs in but i got a feeling they are close already, i'll let you guys know in a couple of days!

I'm at about 850ft elev. i drilled 9x1" holes in my air box lid, drilled a set of main jets out to 3/32", upped the pilots one size and removed the cap that covers the fuel screw and turned it ou to 2 full turns. the next mod your buddy needs is the 39mm fcr's. mine runs way better with the fcr's than it ever ran with the stock ones!

Sorry I tried to edit my post last night but I got booted off and could not get back on.

So anyways Its a complete FST 840 big bore kit with FST cams, FST springs, Muzzy exhaust, dynatek CDI and we have a jet kit from dynajet with there springs and needles @ clip #1 in the slides.
Stock air box with lid on, no mods done to the air box or lid yet, although I think it needs to breath a bit easier. We have done a few heat cycles with it but I haven't pulled the plugs to see where its at on jetting, stock ,it was really fat at our elevation. We also ditched the stock filter for an AEM.

By the way where did ya get those FCR's from?? I am not too impressed with the factory carbs, they make things way to complicated being vac. actuated. Actually I think it should of been fuel injected like my RZR
