Got mine out of the shop today, 20 hr. service. Dealer still did not have tools to adjust belt. The mechanic told me the slipping I feel is the engine brake disengaging on take off. It kinda make sense, but it still feels like the belt. When they get tools in, Im gonna take back to check belt. Anyone think the engine braking may be the jumping feeling on take off???

No. Try slightly power braking it. If it slips when you release the brake pedal and accelerate, then the belt is slipping. By giving it gas, the brake should be disengaged.

There seems to be some confusion as to what type of service is to be performed by the dealer during the first initial service at 20 hours.

I will admit, I was under the impression that the belt was to be inspected and adjusted accordingly, however, that is not the case. This information has been confirmed with Kawasaki Motor Company, the Teryx service manual, Teryx owners manual, and lastly, the belt information tag on the center console. In addition, I also thought that valve clearances was supposed to be inspected now, I was wrong in thinking that as well.

The following are items that are to be inspected / changed / adjusted:
Fuel system cleanliness - inspect *
Choke knob play - inspect
Spark plug - clean and gap inspect
Air cleaner - inspect *
Engine oil - change *
Oil filter - replace *
Front and rear final gear case oil - change
Radiator - clean *
Front brake pad wear - inspect *
Brake light switch - inspect
Brake fluid level - inspect
Joint boots - inspect
"*" denotes to service more frequently when opertated in mud, dust, or other harsh driving conditions.

For those of you wondering when the belt adjustments take place, this happens at 200 hours or 2000km of use, which would also be denoted with a "*"

Valve clearance - inspect is to be done after the first 2000km and then 4000km thereafter.

20 hour service is a waits of money I think for what is done.

If there is a consistent problem with belt deflection then Kawasaki should address it and cover it. It is to be expected on a new products that issues will develop.

You need to find a different dealer....that is ridiculous.

I have always done my own service on all the vechiles I have. Not because I really want to, but because 1. I know how it's done, and hopefully I'll do it right, 2. I know I'm not getting ripped off.

Apparently, the only hard thing is changing the fluids. And if you can't do that you shouldn't be working on your own stuff anyway. I wouldn't pay $440 to check those easy things and changing fluids. It was worth the price of the manual to do my own stuff.
