Well I am not sure where to ask this so I guess it goes here. Here is the deal. I live in Ohio and I bought a Teryx Memorial Day weekend. I went to the BMV this morning to get the state sticker so I can ride on the edge of the road. Well they weren't sure how to handle this situation since there is no title and these have a certificate of ownership. They call some other division and they tell them that UTV's can't get the state sticker and that it CAN'T be driven on the road. So now what does a guy do if he wants to ride on state ground? Can I use an SMV sign and be legal? I was told by 2 Ohio State Patrolman that I could use an SMV sign but we have been having problems with our local Sheriff's Dept. and them telling us we can't drive on or cross the road with ATV's even though we have the state stickers. Thanks for any and ALL input.

As far as the SMV thing, I hope you dont have a cdi, or anything else modded. Cause it aint no SMV. ha ha

PS. good thing you dont live in PA. They would put you in jail and take your first born.

We have this issue in Gaston County NC. I have a 2009 Teryx LE. A friend of mine has a Mule and said the UTV's could be on the road with SMV within three miles of residence and max speed of 35mph. He was actually riding on the wrong side of the road and was pulled by the state hwy patrol and the officer noted his SMV and ask how far he was going. He told him just up the road. The officer told him to stay on the right side, be careful and have a nice day. I was on my way home on my Teryx on the right side of the road seat belt on, lights on, SMV sign on back running about 30mph. Sheriff Deputy pulls me over tells me I can't ride on the road and says he can write me about five tickets. What gives?

here in ky, atv sxs etc arent taxed, arent titled and cant be legally driven on any road, across the river in indiana they are titled and taxed and can be driven on county roads. where i ride mostly the cops dont say anything. ive seen people clocking mph next to a car on a state highway, were talking like 65-70 mph in a 45 lol.once though a friend of mine got stopped and the cop told him"you cant drive that out here and if you do you need a helmet" lol

Same here in Gaston County NC. Atv's utv's etc... are not titled or tagged so they are not allowed on the road taken at face value. However, there is no specific law on the UTV's the law in NC is specific to ATV's as "having handle bars and seat being straddled by the rider." and the NC law on ATV's also states that "none of the restrictions apply when being used for farming, hunting or trapping." Some police look at them as ATV's, some as farm equipment and others as a car with no tag or registration. LOL. It really is up to the descretion of the officer at the time. Which sucks, because if he/she is in a bad mood then he/she is going to throw the book at me.
