long travel or not
okay, thinking for the future. Long travel, +3 or just aftermarket shocks?
I know long travel would be great but I mainly ride trails and I am worried that they might limit the trails I will be able to ride.
Thoughts?

I've been going through the same thing; although, I want to do some racing and think that the additional travel may be necessary.
With that said, I would have to believe that there is a noticable improvement with good quality & set up shocks even if you don't have the long travel arms. The catch might be that the valving would have to match up close enough to do well without the additional 3+ inches.
Of course, I don't own either yet, but I'm leaning towards buying shocks if some of the better ones will fit stock arms. Then possibly upgrading arms in the future.
The other thought... around here, they are closing off all of the public land to SxS so everywhere we go will be either our property or private riding sites or up to AR & OK where there is still some land open. If this becomes a reality, I don't think an extra 3" will be a big problem. Plus, I want to get some rear spacers/wheels to gain 1.5-2" of width per wheel anyway.

How about shocks and some 2" wheel spacers. I know its not the ideal way to go but you would be able to pull the spacers off if you were to go ridding on a trail that you knew was narrow.. Just a though...

I was wondering why can't (or does) someone build a stock width kit that adds a 2-3" lift and longer travel shocks? Width on the trails is an issue all ready as several of the trails we ride are narrow and made for ATVs. I would like to do some racing and better/more suspension would be ideal. Getting between trees is an issue and adding width makes it worse. I thought the length of the Kawi A arms are set up for 2-4" more suspension when compared to other brands.

if you lift the teryx, it will become more tipsy, and that will be bad for a race track.

longer travel, stock width arms?
The stock teryx's arms look like they should be long enough to to cycle 11 or 12 inches but for some reason they don't because of clearance issues. Someone should experiment and mock up some custom stock width arms that could still use the stock axles to see how much travel is possible without changing out the stock axles. Maybe only a upper or lower arm is holding back the available travel. If you didn't have to buy new axles, the cost for a kit like that would be alot less. I think the stock arms are pretty strong as is. So maybe you just need an upper in the front and a lower in the rear get 11 inches. If I could save 1200 dollars on a kit like that and get 11 or 12 inches of travel, that would be great. Has anyone tried this yet?

The type of racing in my area is more like cross country. We deal with mud bogs, deep ruts, river crossings, big rocks, logs across the trail, etc. Clearance is an issue. We pull our loaded trailers to staging on rougher trails than the CORR tracks. When we need to go wider, people use offset rims and wheel spacers to help stability. The CORR style low and wide set up would just get me stuck.
I sure which we had CORR style racing though. It sure looks fun.

I thought that some of the aftermarket shocks... maybe the walkers added a couple of inches of travel. Of course, I'm not sure if it's really been confirmed by anyone.
I would like to start off with a good shock set up and spacers/offset wheels, and then possibly consider the 3"+ kit which would use the same shocks down the road as the racing develops more.
