Catalyst is short for catalytic convertor. They are usually a honey comb like block of material coated with various precious metals like Platinum. When the exhaust flows through the catalyst, a chemical reaction takes place converting some of the exhaust emissions to harmless byproducts. Notice I said flow through, this is inline in the exhaust system and is a restriction, especially for modified engines. Many new motorcycles now have catalysts as standard equipment.

Thanks for the info Chris.
So would an aftermarket exhaust such as a Muzzy eliminate it (for race use only)? I heard the Kawi EFI registers its settings before combustion not after.

Once they have gone this far they may as well add a couple of O2 sensors to the mix as well.I am sure that will be the next step in atv and utv fuel injection systems. It's just a matter of who will be the first to bring it to market.

I wouldn't get too excited about the 2TWC note. It was there last year also.

It is the way of the future, the bigger cc ATVs and UTVs are slowly becoming all EFI. I love carbs but EFIs are nice too.

They did cert the 2009 with a carb. That costs some money to do so if they had no intention of using one, they would of never gone to the expense. But it is now also certified as MFI which it really should of been all along, even at the initial release. A fuel gauge and a few other refinements would probably mean more to most than MFI for at this time, a carb can be more easily tuned by the average person.

If this ends up being a late release, I'd say they did an about face and changed their gameplan.

While I agree that carbs are far easier to tune and keep running for us old schoolers, I do see the reasons what people covet the EFI even though I have mixed emotions. It adds another level of complexity thats not needed on an off road vehicle, adds more failure prone electronics, and adds a whole lot more stuff thats not trail fixable.

On the other hand, riders like me, that use their rides for hunting and trail riding, it is nice to be able to go out and turn the key and not have the machine spittering and sputtering till it warms up. When I get out of the tree stand in 0 degree weather, I don't want to be making a ruckus or stinking up the woods unnecessarily

The catalytic converter(s), should also make the exhaust quieter. Something that a lot of us would like if it can come without a power loss, but will also be easily removed for other applications.

I guess I'll hold final judgement on whether or not it leaves me stranded, as I am planning on purchasing the new EFI version. I'll be packing my favorite boots just in case.......

Will be interesting to see what other improvements have been made in a couple weeks.

Bad Boy Buggies are a pile of SHIZ. It won't pull my disk or planter for food plots either, nor get me to where I need to go to hunt. Maybe if I was a poser hunter like ya see on TV, it would do the job.

I highly doubt the Price will go up that much, as they are not exactly flying off the showroom floor as it is. There may also be other pertinent upgrades like a decent heel pocket, and belt upgrades, that will be worth a little extra and relieve the current headaches. There's almost ALWAYS small changes here and there to first year models, which is exactly why I have waited this long. I predict a 500$ maximum increase.

My main problem will be resisting the urge to turn my hunting buggy into a racer with the stuff sitting on the shelf here

The left over 08s will be dirt cheap if this is true.

For this about turn by Kwak, I refuse to put on the extra safety stickers they sent me!
