This is a discussion on Ca Helmet law within the General Teryx Discussion forums, part of the Kawsaki Teryx Forum General Teryx category; I read about a law on another forum just passed in California requiring helmets in UTV's. Evidently it just was signed into law last Tuesday ...

Ca Helmet law

I read about a law on another forum just passed in California requiring helmets in UTV's. Evidently it just was signed into law last Tuesday and it seems like no one knew about it.

Disturbing part is it was supposedly sponsored/supported by Kawasaki.

Quote:
The proposed legislation, authored by Assembly Member Cook and sponsored/supported by Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association ("ROHVA") Kawasaki Motors Corporation. End quote.

Also bans 4 seaters unless manufactured that way, and has some language that could prevent kids whose feet don't touch the floorboards from being able to ride.

Scary stuff for those that enjoy Glamis with the family.

WEAK! They should make those who own a convertible sports car wear helmets then! We have a full cage tied back into the frame and 5 point harness. Like I said WEAK!

If it is true, that Kawi is supporting this, that is a lame way to increase sales of the T4.

1. All the OHV makers know Moonbeam Brown and the Obama administration would love to outlaw all OHVs, so thery're kissing azz to stay in business.

2. They are scared to death of lawsuits from ambulance chasers looking for a big payday in the name of protecting the children.

After all guys, if you can afford one of these things you're obviously not paying your fair share.

I wonder if those who modified there back seats are "grandfathered" in? Great way to kill a industry that is already on the decline. Twisted stitch and others better crank out some product while they can.

Before you know it we will have to install air bags as well. Heck we could have one big bubble inflate around you if the car decides to flip over. That could be one helluva ride in a sand bowl.

So does this part of the law tell me I can't have my son securely strapped in a premey seat?

38604. A person operating a recreational off-highway vehicle shall not
ride with a passenger, unless the passenger, while seated upright with his
or her back against the seatback with both feet flat on the floorboard, can
grasp the occupant handhold with the seatbelt and shoulder belt or safety
harness properly fastened.

Banning the 4 seat conversion is what troubles me more than the helmet law.

Wow, that's f***ed up. That means in CA, I can't legally ride with my GF, because she's barely 5' and can't touch the seat back and floor at the same time, let alone being able to reach the Kawi grab handle at the same time..

I guess I won't waste my time dragging my butt to CA anytime in the near future. Good thing there's tens of thousands of miles of great trails within a couple hundred miles of my house, including Moab, Island Park, Yellowstone, etc.

There is some truth to this statement, BUT it's not to protect the children as they tell us. If Gov's main concern was to protect the children, maybe they should spend some money to install seat belts in every single school bus in use.

The Ca helmet law is another gov lie. They say they want to protect us from ourselves, WHY?, I should have the freedom to choose, especially when it doesn't hurt anyone but me. The only reason they want to protect me, is so I can keep paying my taxes. If they say, what about the people that dont die and require alot of medical services, then I say outlaw smoking since that cost on the system far out weighs the other.
BTW, I don't even ride a street bike, I'm just against the gov writing laws taking ALL my free choices away just so they can look like they are doing something while in office.

Good luck with a petition, you might want to start by finding who wrote the bill and who voted for it and then vote them out of office, or move

That's a great point Marty! No seat belts in a bus, yet we are required to have helmets and no bench seats even though we have 5 point belts and roll cages.

Yeah, so all sand rails are going to be banned that have rear seats? There is not a "manufacturer" of these rides.
