Street Legal???

Ok, here is something that has been tried by the atv world...Is it possible to make my tyrex street legal in florida or any other state? I only have the certificate of origin...I know that I have to get all the DOT stuff but how to do the paper work?

AZ

Here's how it works in Arizona. When you buy an ATV/UTV you get an RV tag with the registration. In order to drive it on the street you have to have a Motorcycle tag. So, you have to have all the necessary requirements of a motorcycle. Most people think it includes turn signals. Check with Florida DMV but the law here speaks of mechanical signaling devices, which can be arm signals. You do need a horn and a rearview mirror. Mine is an LE so it has a windshield but not required on motorcycles so not necessary on UTVs. Once you get the safety equipment required by Florida you register it as you would any other vehicle. What it comes down to is what Florida will be classifying your UTV as. One thing most of us in AZ are guilty of is tires. 99.9% of the street legal UTVs here don't have DOT approved tires, but this is not...has not been enforced. Hope this helped and didn't totally confuse you.

ok, this is where I got confused...My certificate of origin says on it: "off road use only." How do I get away from that trying to register it?

Exactly right, every state has their own rules. In AZ we are given a license plate, which is (as I said before) for recreational vehicles. It sounds like Florida doesn't issue plates for RVs. Ask how to get an atv plated.

you can try to register it as a medium speed vehicle.

search here under your state:

I just called my tax collector here and they said all I have to do is bring in my certificate of origin and a bill of sale, "o" and the rv has to have insurance before going there (anyone know who might insure our tyrex?)

Sounds to good to be true.

I will attempt this next month, the reason being getting a new tag will cost me $225 puls taxes

Im still very doubtful because my certificate says: this vehicle was not manufactuerd for use on public streets, roads or highways. Anyones certificate or titles say this?

been there, I live in MI. Progessive is the only ins. that I could get. It is then registered as an assembled vehicle and a new vin is assinged to it. After of coarse getting a windsheild, mirrors. Turn signals, rear bumper, horn etc.

How did you get to register it as an assembled vehicle? Can you provide a step by step...If you would prefer you can pm me.

I really want to register this vehicle and pretty sure when it comes right down to it, that they would say no it cant be done...

Keep in mind that every state has different laws, what works for AZ and MI may not work for you... Go to your local department of motor vehicles and ask if it can be done.

I went to my states, secratary of state web page, downloaded a form for the requirments to make a vehicle street legal. Meet all the requirmnets, had a police officer sign that they have been completed and sent them back to the state. They then do a original title search to verify no leins on the original vin number, if none they reassing a new vin number as an assembled vehicle and then it reads for road use. If it has a lein the original lein holder has to sign off on it and be placed on the new vin numbered title. Believe me it sounds easy, it has taken awhile and its not gonna happen fast, insurance wasnt easy to get, the only place was progressive and they did it cheaper then the rider I had it under on my house. Every state is different. Good luck

X2 on progressive, you can do it Online from the comfort of your home. Just barely over $100 a year (Includes aftermarket accessories). Mine has a VIN, something doesn't sound quite right that you have no VIN.

USAA insures them also, full coverage, collision, comprehensive.

Another great thing in AZ is there is no DOT tire law for this state. They only complain if you have solid tires... That's straight from the ARS. 28 - 958.

What is the total the AZ DMV charges and how does it work with emissions? Did you take it to the DMV on a trailer and have it inspected? Thanks for the info!

i took mine on a trailer for inspection, but no one ever took a look at it. no emissions requirements. i think the registration total was right at $40 bucks.

I'm still in cal. and so is my teryx but I have a quad in az. with a plate I went to one of the small out source reg. places they have in az. and title transfer and street and of road total $55.oo cheaper then ca. by far. But I used a payson address so I wouldn't have to worry about smog, and I have no street equip except lights, a lot of the trails in az. require street reg. because they are dirt roads at least where we hunt, and also state farm full coverage. babble babble !
