1266 got signed into law

AB 1266 Signed by the Governor Today

I am thrilled to report that today Governor Jerry Brown signed AB 1266 into law. I want to thank you all for your advice and support in getting this passed. I could not have done it without you.

AB 1266 removes the language requiring passengers to be able to sit "with both feet flat on the floorboard" while restrained. This will ensure that children can continue to ride, allowing families to continue enjoying off-roading together.

This bill also delays the implementation of the provision prohibiting the use of post-manufactured seats until July 1, 2013. This will give legislators time to work on a solution that would allow operators who have safely modified their vehicles to continue riding.

Now that AB 1266 has been signed into law, my office will work on securing an author for a bill to resolve your remaining concerns. I will update you in the coming weeks on the progress of draft legislation as well as information about which legislators will be carrying the legislation next year.

Thank you again for all of your input and support over the past two months.

Sincerely,

Assemblyman Paul Cook
65th Assembly District

Good to hear. Let's hope he keeps his word and follows through with fixing the language for those of us with 4 seat modified machines.

Good news for now that's for sure. I do hope that he appoints a new author to work on ammending the rear seat issue so that we don't have to deal with it after July.

I don't want to be negative I just hope that the legislature and rova will take into consideration all the time and money we have in a safe 4 seat conversion and side with us on a new bill.

I think someone posted a law Az has on the books about added rear seating that was fair and descriptive. Hopefully Ca will follow their example. Let's just be prepared for another fight justin case, but for now enjoy the upcoming riding season

X2...we all need to stay focused on the non-OEM seat portion that will take effect in July 2013!!!!!

What about amending the helmet law???? These vehicles have roll cages FFS! Or amend it to have an age implementation? I didnt ask you the Gov what you thought about that topic and don't care. One less freedom we all have in this country.
I'm glade you pulled your head out partially and removed that potion of the bill, now pull a lot harder to get it all the way out Paul. Your not part of this community and can take your nanny laws and shouve them where the sun doesn't shine!

I hope they just remove the whole bill altogether! It's a start for what they did but all the other pieces of it need to be repealed!!!

What's going to happens when the manufacturers get sued because a child hurt their neck in a crash due to the weight of the helmet? Even a foam doughnuts will not save you from whiplash, Hans devices required?

What a stupid law.

Why doesn't the Government make the stricter standards for roll cages and seatbelts for the corporations? Someone is getting kicked back something! I should have gone into politics!

The more I think about this law and its wording the more I think we are going to be Fukked after july. The more I think about it is they gave us a law packed with BS heard us bitch and moan and reworded it to let us believe theres light at the end of the tunel. What we are left with is still a law packed with BS.

I have decided my kids will not wear a DOT helmet, maybe a bike helmet. Im not going to let some dumb ass tell me that its a good idea for a 3 and 5 year old who are notorious for falling asleep and becoming bobble heads in the car to have there necks broken by wearing a 2lb helmet

If I'm reading right ab1266 still states "38604. A person operating a recreational off-highway vehicle shall not ride with a passenger, unless the passenger, while seated upright with his or her back against the seatback, can grasp the occupant handhold with the seatbelt and shoulder belt or safety harness properly fastened"

That means kids while in their seats and seatbelts fastened can't reach handhold. So kids still can't ride.

They should just include these laws to include highway going vechicles as well and we just won't take our kids anywhere. My kids can't reach any grab handles or touch the floor while straped into their booster seats.

Its funny how the government was put into place to build our infrastructure and protect our rights and the only thing they do now is take away our rights and tell us what we can and cant do. I heard a statistic the other day about how government jobs and government contractors make up something like 40% of our workforce, a bit ridiculous if you ask me.

I would like to say Thank you for understanding the mistakes that were made with the original bill and taking the time to reverse it.

So are they going to make the changes by July or just let the existing law stay as is? I hope it doesn't stay as is, but it will require serious lobbying to get amendments.
