Default Spring compressor (home made)

Just curious if anyone has made their own clutch spring compressor. I was thinking maybe a piece of all thread and a couple of washers and nuts. Need to adjust my belt and trieng to save 90 bucks for other stuff any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Yah, I made my spring compressor out of 1/2" all thread and washers and nuts. You will need two pieces of flat steel with a 1/2" hole to put on the all thread tocompress spring. the bottom piece needs to be flat, but the top piece needs to be shaped like a C. Its hard to explain, but you will see.

Nice sounds good I dont have any experience with these clutches but was hopeing when I took it apart I could figure somthing out. Thanks a lot

Sounds like you've done this before. So when you take the clutch apart are the shims obvious or do you have to know what your looking for mine has 25 hours on it and is getting jumpy on take off. Kinda nervous about tearing into this thing but I don't trust my dealer

Dry clutches tend to be a little jumpy at take off, they are not under tension all of the time, so this should be normal.

what I understand from others experience in this forum when the teryx starts to get jumpy on takeoff and squealing while idling in gear its time for a deflection check

Here is the one I made out of 1/4" flat stock purchased from Home Depot with all thread and two 1/4" bolts and nuts. It works great.

The all thread mounts to a piece of flat stock with two nuts to keep the all thread from turning, the second piece of flat stock with the two 1/4" bolts are drilled to fit the spring width so I can remove the clip. It was very easy to make and does the job.

Gumbo, when you get clutch off compress spring and remove C shaped keeper. Then inside the clutch (where the shaft goes) there are four bearings that you need to remove to release the two pieces. Use a small screwdriver or magnet to remove bearings, they are appx. 3/8" diameter and 3/4" long. Remove two pieces of secondary clutch and your shims will be btween these two pieces. They look like big thin washers. Prolly be two shims one larger and one smaller. Just remove smaller or two and reassemble clutch. Do it once and you've got it.
