Default drive pully rubbing

just did my belt deflection today and after everything was back together i drove it for about five minutes and when i stopped it started making a noise from the belt housing sounded like metal on metal rubbing, with a little throttle it would go away, i tore it all apart again and it looked like the fins on the drive pulley were barley rubbing a thin metal plate on the engine block all i can think is i over torqued it so i put it all back together and it ran fine with no noise???? is there a spacer or washer that goes between the drive pulley and the engine or is over torqueing the problem??? im baffeled
