My Airbox Mod / Snorkel on 2009 Teryx

I looked at several of the snorkel modifications on before I came up with this idea.

I had a muffler shop bend me a piece of three inch exhaust pipe. I had them make it a little long on either end, and then I cut it to fit when I got it home.

You can see that I replaced the stock rubber coupler with an industrial turbo hose coupler.

The pipe is secured to the rear airbox brace by a couple pieces of 1/8" flat. The bottom piece is 3.5" wide x 10" long. It has a circular notch cut in it so the pipe will fit down level with the air intake. Once the pipe was plumb and square, I welded the bracket to the pipe. A couple of 1/4" holes in either end of the bracket allow it to be bolted to the rear airbox brace. The vertical piece is 3" wide X 10" long. It also has a notch cut to fit around the pipe and is also welded in place.

I mainly ride my teryx around the farm. There is lots of fine billowing dust. I was changing my filter every other day. My main concern was to get the filter up high out into fresh air. I decided to put stick the stock airbox on top of the exhaust tube. It fits well, looks good, is easy to access, and doesn't need any support to hold it up. Again, I used an industrial turbo hose coupler to couple the airbox with the exhaust pipe.

Stock airbox cover in place. Up the pipe, you can see a u-bolt holding the pipe in place. I bought a 3 inch round u-bolt, 3/8" diameter, 6" long. I bent the ends in at the back of the pipe, and then back out again, making the threads of the bolt on two inch centers. This allows the u-bolt to fit through the small space in the middle of the X that the roll cage forms. I used a piece of flat iron on the back side to pass the u-bolt through and then tighten it down with a nut and washer.

Project cost:
----------------
1 - 3" inch exhaust pipe - $25
2 - 3" inch turbo hose couplers - $34
1 - stock airbox - $0
2 - pieces of 1/8" flat iron - $0 (found in the scrap pile)
1 - 3" u-bolt - $4.50
labor - $0 (diy)

Total cost - $63.50

I've put on over 200 miles since doing this modification and my filter still looks as clean as the day it came out of the wash.

My dad like the result so well, he had me do the same mod on his 2012 Teryx.

First time I seen that one. You certainly get point for creativity.

I've been looking for ideas for a snorkel.

Good job.

you could also put the box back and keep the stock filter in it but prefilter it at the end of the snorkle, that way its easy to service if its a k&n type with a sleeve..

I like it! I betcha when it gets dusty out, your air filter will stay cleaner up there compared to the stock location...

Absolutely. Had a monster dust storm the other day. Wind blew 35 mph the whole day and the valley was nothing but dust. I drove 80 miles. My face was white as a ghost, but the filter still looked like it just came out of the oil bath.
