Custom roof/stereo systems.....

Anyone else here built custom roofs for their rides? I started one today on mine. I'm kinda just messing around with some cheaper materials to see how this works. If all goes well I'll keep it, but I might disassemble it and build it out of better material.

I wanted to have a roof on mine, but also wanted to install some stereo stuff too. I didn't really feel like spending a ton of money on a "kit" so I decided to build my own. I plan on running a Kicker PXi50.2 with controller to power my mids/highs, then a Kenwood 600w to power a Kicker Comp 10" sub.

I already have the roof built, test fitted, and started sanding to prep for finish. Right now the plan is to seal everything up with a bed liner. I built this out of 3/4" OSB, but if it seals up good with the bed liner then I might just keep it like it is.

I'll post up some pics of what I've gotten done tomorrow........

I made my roof out of 1/8 aluminum. I then bolted everything to the roof works good. with the two 6x9s it has decent sound but not as good as something with woofers.

I forgot I had snapped this last night. We were trying to come up with something on the sides, and this is what we went with. We were just making cutouts from cardboard and seeing what we liked.

We finished up the sides and it's all together now. I'm rounding all the edges right now, then I'll start putting a finish on it.

More pics to come shortly......

Made a little more progress today.

Finished applying wood filler to the entire piece, and started building the sub box.

Plan for tonight is finish up the sub box, sand down the wood filler, and maybe a sound check.....more to come later.

Sub box is built, and all the sanding is done. I'm not sure I'm liking it right now, but getting it painted might help. I just don't know if I like how squared it is, but there really isn't much else I can do with it. I guess if I don't like it I'll buy a plastic roof and make a rack under it for speakers......

Give me some honest opinions here guys. I can promise you won't hurt my feelings!!! LMAO

Yeah I see what you mean. It kinda looks like a top hat now that you have it up on the Rex.. Ride it out it may turn out once it is painted black... Good luck! The work looks top notch!

So I've kinda put this off for a couple of days, but I'll be back on it tonight. I'm going to go ahead and finish the roof and see what it looks like. I've got my subs, sub box, amp for subs, mids/highs, and my second amp/iPod controller will be here tomorrow. I've tested the subs out and they are EXTREMELY loud!!! This should be interesting!!! The box takes up about half of the bed......might be overkill, but that's how I roll!!!

If the roof doesn't work out then I'll buy one and go from there......

Got alot done tonight. Roof actually just might work out fine. Got all the
Wiring done for my sub amp, and finished coating the under side of the roof. Laid down friction tape on the cage, and have the speaker wire all routed to the subs.

Tomorrow my Kicker PXi50.2 will be here so I'll wire it up and install the mids/highs in the roof, wire them up and see how it sounds......can't wait to finish this up and go cruise!!!!

LOL!!! I know, I know.......

It's been late the past couple of night so I didn't bother taking any pics in the dark. I'm wrapping everything up today when I get home, so I'll snap some photos before I have it all back together.

I finished everything up last night and gave it a test run. My wife came out of the house like she was shot out of a cannon. The only words out of her mouth were, "you have got to be kidding me"........mission accomplished!!!
