stereo install questions...

Looking to install a system in my 09 with kolpin sport roof. It looks like the kolpin has a cutout on the back part of the roof to mount two 6 1/2's.

Now questions...how and where to mount an amp? I suppose I could fab up something and mount it to the roof, but it would have to be marine grade then. Glovebox maybe...? Any hidden locations that work well?

Next question...how do you guys run wires up to the roof? Up and down the cage I assume...is there anyway to get the wires inside the pipe? Wires on the outside wouldn't last long in the woods.

Thanks!

Here's where I mounted my amps.....my sub amp was too big to fit on top of the glove box, so I just installed it in the glove box. I ran my wires up the cage and just zip tied them nice and neat. If you don't have the pull out cup holders you can mount a pretty good size amp there too. I ran my wires from my amps thru the driveshaft tunnel towards the back, came up between the seats and back to the cage.

Cool. Does that kicker amp see moisture/mud in that location?

No, this is all covered up, but if you get in something deep enough it might get wet. Normal driving tho, you are good to go.

Definitely not planning on going that deep. It just looks like the front right tire would kick up water/mud in that location. I haven't had it apart yet, so I really don't know what it looks like under there.

Do you guys have an alternator to keep the battery going?

The wifey wants a stereo system with woofer but I am not sure if I have to spend more money into an alternator as well...

I'm running all my stuff off the stock alternator and battery. No issues yet.

Well, putting everything in the bed would run the risk of getting everything wet, but that's not what the OP was talking about doing.

JJB - you will be fine mounting your amp between the firewall and dash as long as you're not going thru deep water. Use some marine grade speakers and you won't have to worry about ruining anything if they do get a little wet. I bought all my mids/highs (marine grade) from Best Buy and they offer a warranty plan for like $7. If you have any questions or need some advise don't hesitate to ask. I just built my entire system from scratch, so I can help you figure it all out.

My system consists of:
Kicker PXi50.2 amp/iPod controller
Kenwood 600w sub amp
2 - Pioneer 6x8 mids/highs
2 - Kenwood 6.5 mids/highs
2 - Punch H3 10's in a Bandpass box

I went with a Bandpass box because the subs are completely covered and I don't have to worry about mud or water getting on them.

Let me know if you have any questions......

How do you like that kicker amp/ipod controller? I would like to do something like that but I want to use a different amp. That amps says it only does 25W at 2 ohms. Do you know of anything else on the market for ipod control?

What all has to come off to get access to the top of the glove box for amp mounting? Obviously the hood + ? I have an 09 so the hood does not tilt.

I used a JL audio component that allows you to connect the iPod to any amp with a volume knob on the dash. It does require a cable from iPod to this unit that doesn't come with it.

Check it out... http://mobile.shopatron.com/products...3.0.0?mobile=1

As for removing the hood, you can either take the roll cage off or just slide the hood up the pillars till you hit the factory grab handle on the passenger side and tie a support strap to the cross braces... Which is a PITA! but it will get you under the dash...

Better option if you foresee yourself getting under the dash a lot is doing the hood flip mod. PhelpsAZ(another forum member) did a sweet write up on it. Search for it if that's something you would consider.

Check it out... JL Audio, USA - CL-RLC

that jl controller looks interesting thanks.

so get a couple of long rachet straps and go around the hood and the roll cage cross bar? how much does the hood weigh?

You could use a ratchet strap, I just used some ground wire I had laying around in the garage. I tied it to the top cross brace, ran it under the hood through the "nose"(V cut hole in the hood) the tied it back to the same brace. I would of liked to have a couple extra hands/arms because it is an awkward piece to try slide up on the pillars.

I'm not a good judge of weight, but the most heavy part on the hood are the lights.
