Remind Ain’t UTube Great? Listen Up Folks!!!

The creation of UTube has allowed the idiots out there to easily demonstrate to the entire world just how stupid they really are, some of it can be damn funny at times but unfortunately that’s not what I’m about to share. Instead, it is an example of how to shoot 55 million+ motorized recreational enthusiasts in the foot with one shot.

The following video has the negative attention of nearly the entire OHV Community and has become the poster child of a current campaign by Tread Lightly! who are attempting to educate people about the effects that this sort of behavior has on the future of our sport.

Forget the brand involved and the fact that it’s a UTV/SXS for now, but remember the ammunition this sort of $hit gives anti-access groups, the NFS, BLM and others! When your favorite play area finally closes, if it hasn’t already, you have folks like the one in the video below to thank.

This casts a REALLY BAD light on SXS/UTV folks and the entire OHV Community in general. Those among us who have fought for decades to preserve access for all motorized recreationists take personal offense to thoughtless actions like those depicted!!

If anyone knows who these losers are I’d suggest you report them to authorities or at least have a discussion with them personally about their actions before they and other 1% ‘ers like them screw it up even further for everyone!!!

Here’s a whole library of their UTube antics, take note of the “handles” they used to upload the videos, perhaps they will serve to help trigger somebody’s memory!

I for one see it differently than you. Making your way across a water crossing is one thing but to drive around in the stream like an idiot is something else. It may look like nothing to most but it is actions exactly like this that flat out destroy the eco system. Like mentioned above, actions like this are what get our riding areas closed off and shut down. If the area you are riding in allows it then great but if you're not then be aware what may happen. It is very likely that 1 minute of fun could lead to a complete closure of your riding area for good, just not worth it in my book.

The places we ride at that is about the only way to ride. Now, granted all the atv parks here in Texas are mostly mud parks. Most state parks don't even allow atvs or utvs in them...for the reason above. Public land bad idea. Private land all good.

Is that land protected or public? I ride in the woods all the time...I clean my bike off in Rivers, etc....it doesn't do any harm! You think a little SxS going around like the guy did above in a running river is going to hurt things....wow...there is way more to be pissed out...and that seems like a normal day for me...sorry, I don't buy the greenpeace bullshit...if they were doing break stands in the water and doing donuts a bunch then ok I would say no need for it....people have been going in rivers/water for years...in trucks, trikes, quads...no different then a sxs....please find something else to b!tch about.

If it's a protected area/land/water in a national park or something...ok well don't do it I guess...but if they really cared that much they wouldn't allow any type of travel in the first place.

Shooting the Messenger

I post items I think might be of interest or concern to our Community. I got this video from Tread Lightly! and thought I would share it.

Here is their official take on the matter . . .

“Short answer... No, it’s not okay.

Longer answer... Stream crossings should only be done at designated crossings, and travel through should be limited to just enough power to get across safely and effectively. Travel up and down a stream where the trail does not designate that as the route (yes, there are some) constitutes off-trail, and especially with a riparian environment, could lead to penalties or (hopefully not) closures. These guidelines apply for public and private lands, as even in a private lands setting, sediment can flow downstream and impact other users and areas, if not mitigated.”

I believe some of you may have read my post a little different than I intended.

I am all about having a great time and enjoying the outdoors by way of UTV/ATV and I would like to see more open areas and less closed areas. I was wrong in making the assumption that the video above was taken in an area that was closed or had trail guidelines. To be a little bit more clear I am all for it IF it is in an area that is designated or is on private land which will not affect surrounding areas and I am completely against it IF it is in a limited use area/regulated area.

At the end of the day I am all for obeying the rules and regulations, however dumb they may be, to keep riding areas open. I wish everyday that there were no rules or regulations and that everyone bit of public land was open for public use with no limitations.

That is the kind of d-bag that is getting trails in ut around my cabin closed and they ruin it for the rest of us. If you want to drive like a a$$ hole don't do it in a stream or a pristine field or rut the shit out of a trail because you don't know how to drive. Its like me doing a doughnut in your front lawn. Those kind of people should be beat.

I appreciate everybody’s thoughts on this matter!

Folks, using “Tellico” as an example, even with NFS approved legal stream crossings that were used as prescribed, and trails that were set up with NFS approved sedimentation mitigation measures in place, Trout Unlimited (fronted by The Wilderness Society) were able to permanently close the place using sedimentation issues.

Honestly, if you take a hard unemotional unbiased look at the video, it clearly shows well-used ingress and egress points for crossing the creek and someone in the group mentions a good place to camp that would likely indicate this is public land, either NFS or BLM controlled, where camping in unimproved areas is still legal.

I’m not saying it’s right but the EPA can even fine us up to $50,000 per violation for numerous things we might do on our own private property, it is a FACT!

Forewarned is better than looking back at a times spent in a favorite area now closed due to environmentalists influence and intervention!

I guess another way to look at it is if you come up to a grassy prairie and there is a clearly defined trail crossing it. Would it be OK to deviate from the trail or play in the prairie off the trail?

Doing as shown does not help the off road community, however you must realize that even if everyone is perfect they still want to shut it all down if possible, that is there goal and if you think otherwise... shame on you!
