Question about 4 seat roll cages
One of the first things I am looking to do to my teryx is a 4 seat cage & rear seats for the kids. I've noticed that every just about every cage attaches to the bed, rather than to the frame. My question is, will this provide protection in case of a rollover? It seems that since it is anchored to sheetmetal, the back of the cage might be suspect & not actually provide complete protection.
Obviously we drive very conservatively when the kids are with us, & I 'd hope no one would ever have to find out the hard way, but I'm certainly willing to spend the extra coin to keep my kids safe. Just wondering if anchoring the rear of the cage to the bed is enough.

This has been a hot topic over the last few years. There are people that make them both ways. People have probably been injured in both types. I know HRT Motorsports makes Teryx 4 seat cages that attach to the rear of the chassis, and the rear seat mounts to the cage, not the bed.

Custom Creations makes one that is welded to a rear bumper and then bolted to the frame. I would think this is the strongest way to go. There are several pics on there cage on here.

xchamp is right. The better way is to have the cage mount to a rear bumper that attatches to the frame. This picture is not of a Teryx but you can see what we are talking about.

I saw a company at the Az. Sand Expo last December who removed the tailgate so the rear seat could sit back just a few inches and built it into the rear bumper but I can't remember the name of the company. I liked the idea though.

I don't like the frame mounting idea. The bed on the Teryx is stout and I don't see it getting hurt in a rollover. It is nothing like the Rhino.

the cage does not have to mounted to the bed or rear bumper if it is properly braced. you don't want your cage to be to rigid, the load has to be transfered somewhere so if your cage doesn't have any give then it won't flex and just break. our cages don't mount in the rear and there has been many rolled and have saved many lives, here is one rhino with our cage that got body slammed at 40mph and all four people walked away.
