Roof, or no Roof?

This is a discussion on Roof, or no Roof? within the Teryx4 forums, part of the Kawsaki Teryx Forum General Teryx category; Which do you prefer and why? I like the Kawasaki 2 piece Aluminum roof, but it is pricey. Are there any aftermarket aluminum roofs available ...

I like the Kawasaki 2 piece Aluminum roof, but it is pricey.

Are there any aftermarket aluminum roofs available for the Teryx4 yet?

Where?

Where did you see that roof at? I can't seem to find any parts anywhere for the T4 besides what comes on them stock. (plastic roof and brush guard on the LE) There isn't even an option for the T4 under accessories on Kawasaki.com.

I have the aluminum roof and love it. I think it looks a little nicer and it has the integrated sun visor. Most importantly I have put it through hell going down some small wooded trails and it is holding up. I have benit it a little and scratched only about a million times and it seems to be holding up well. Pricey but worth it if you ride tight trails. I think the plastic would be destroyed by now with what this has been through :-) Nothing wrong with the plastic, just depends on where you ride..

When you scratch the aluminum roof, is it silver underneath
or black right through?

Depends how bad you scratch it. It is silver under if you scratch it bad enough. I rubbed along a piece of metal that took it down to silver but tree's and normal riding conditions cant break through the paint or powder coat or whatever it is. I just hit that small spot with spray paint and it is fine. Overall it holds up real well.

When I go riding I want to feel like Im outside. When your riding in a car you feel like you're inside looking out, and I want more of a motorcycle feel (outside feeling the breeze). For that reason I prefer no roof because I like the open feel. Especially when Im trail riding I want an open top so I can see all the scenery. I also like a half windshield ...enough to get the wind off my face but not enough to make me feel like Im behind/inside something.

Once or twice a year I take a trip to some sand dunes. Its hot and theres no shade anywhere. I can see myself wanting a top for that. I like the looks of an aluminum top & plan to make my own. I'll install a top for those trips, and probably take out the half windshield so that I can get more air. But other than that, I like an open top.

I've been thinking about the idea of making a roof out of plexyglass and having it tinted... that way you can see out but still get protection from the heat & UV's ...anybody ever seen something like that? I wonder how it would look?

Again, totally depends on the type of riding you do and where you do it. I would never even think about riding without a roof I would be hit in the head by more sticks and branches then I could count. The roof actually acts as a great protector and a way I can squeeze through things without getting whipped in the face. I do agree on the windshield. I read a bunch of posts before deciding on the windshield and I went with a 1/2. Great choice. Now when the shield gets covered in ice or mud I can still look right over it. I would say, are your trails tight and wooded? If so Aluminum roof, if not plastic roof or no roof at all.
