I did my 50 hour service today, an hour late... I drove it up on ramps on the front and jacked up the back. Went to the dealer and paid about $60 for everything but the front end fluid, got that at the auto parts store. This is too easy to do yourself. The only problem I had at all was that I didn't have a big enough socket at work for the fill on the front diff. Other than that, this is very simple to do yourself.

My air filter still looks pretty clean, been pretty wet every time I have ridden, so not much dust, but I am interested in a better air filter, if there is such a thing.

I honestly don't know, I didn't look

I got under it after I paid my dealer to do my 20 hour service and was pissed when I saw how easy it was to get to everything. I did look at the fluid specs and capacities on kawi's site to make sure I was getting the right fluids. It's a pdf file Welcome to Kawasaki.com

I checked last night, and like you said it is very easy. The 20 hr or 120k service is the oil & Filter, front and back diff's, the air filter, check the spark plugs and gas pedal movement.

Other than that I will check the bottom for loose bolts and anything else I may come across.

It just pisses me off that a shop would charge that much for a service, I could see $90 or something but $200...

I am heading to the shop saturday to buy the oils, lubes and oil filter and then I will install sunday, heading to Mammoth next week and need this thing ready.

FYI..The manual is very helpfull and telly tourques specs, oil capacities and where and how to fill and drain the oil in the engine and differentials..

Hey guys. I am about to do my 20 hour service. I wet to the dealership and bought all the materials needed. My question is can I use Kawasaki gear & wet brake oil for the rear diff? The dealership sold that and said it is the same as what the manual states. Thanks for all the help. I am waiting on responses before I start the service tonight.

Yep. That's what it calls for. The thing I had problems with the dealership was they were trying to sell me 10w40 for the front Diff. Make sure you use gear oil.

To the guy who asked about filters, A lot of brute owners (Same motor) don't like the K&N, it seems to not filter as well as you would think, w/o a pre-filter.

Most that I know prefer the Uni. (foam) filter.

yes the fluids are simple to change. its all very easy especially if you leave out setting the belt deflection.

the front diff takes the same oil as the engine.

No, the front diff takes gear oil, if it's a T4.

Yeah, I had 2 dealers tell me the same thing. Except the dealer I bought my machine from. They were right. Check your manual. 80-90w I believe. As new as some of these T4's are to some dealers, I wouldn't trust them. The ones that told me 10 40 hadn't even serviced one yet.

I thought that might be the case. NP. But there is a lot of confusion out there as to what to use. And its coming form dealers. Check your manual before changing your fluids on a new machine. And I would suggest checking the fluids that are in it when u buy it.

I am getting ready to do my Break In service for the 120miles this weekend. After reviewing the regular manual plus the service manual it appears very easy to do for the most part. Here is a link to the regular manual of the T4....if you click the "Maintenance and Adjustment" link under the index on the left it will take you right where you need to be regarding the periodic maintenance. It tells you everything you need to know about exactly why type and amount of fluid to use for both the engine oil change and gear case (diff) fluid changes. They front and rear diffs definitely use different fluids. They make it a point to tell you that in a **NOTICE**

OWNER'S MANUAL | INSPECTION SCREEN

This is the first service I've done on this bike....anyone have any tips or good things to know if they have done it already?

Thanks!
