Pissed The Good and the Bad of the T4

Ok, took my new T4 on it's first long trip today. Trailered out 80 miles and then atv'd another 125 miles. But let me start with Friday; I removed my complete enclosure and full windshield. Installed the plactic hard top and a 1/2 windshield. Installing the OEM Plastic top was and absolute pain. The pop nuts aren't worth anything so had to mod that. to install the front clamps by yourself you will have to remove a full windshield. The brackets/braces in the back again are a little testy. if your adding a gun rack do not tighten down the rear roof braces until you install the gun rack then tighten them or you'll be redoing them anyway....

So, I traded my Rhino for my T4:
The good- fuel economy was unreal, rode with two atvs (can am and a bombadier) both had to add gas I didn't. Great comfortable ride, suspension is super, steering is so much easier with EPS. Plenty of leg room and the new plastic top and windshield were good as well. Plenty of power, only used 4x4 once because of slipper mud going up hill.

The Bad-holy crap is this thing loud compared to my rhino, couldn't carry on a converstation without yelling. Could barely hear the stereo system because of engine whine. Cab noise this loud is really unacceptable. The cab lower area from about the waist down is much hotter than anything I've been in. The engine area puts off more heat into the cab than some might find acceptable especially in summer (today 86). Dust absolutely everywhere, on everything, covered gages, seats us, everything, what a messy. I have no solution as I covered the large areas under the two front seats and used spray insullation in every crack and hole I could find...didn't work one bit. when in 4X4 there is an added whining noise that is irratating at 6 to 12 miles per hour.

I hope I can come up with some mods to help with these issues; will eventually go to a head set system just so we can talk and hear music. Cab heat I'm hoping to line the underneath with self adhesive heat reflectant and noise damping material. Engine whine...just think I'm screwed there. Dust looking for any ideas. I think a lot comes in from around the door areas?

Even with all these issues my T4 was better than my rhino would have been, I think??

Sounds pretty good overall, I would imagine the full enclosed makes the noise worse and the heat. Remember how good the heat will feel when it is 30 degrees

The dust is from the windshield, if it is that bad lift your windshield up a bit and that should fix it.

i rode in 98* heat today for 50 miles on dusty trails behind a few other utvs. yes the dust comes in from everywhere, YOU ARE DRIVING A UTV IN THE DIRT!!!!!

heat from engine area, yes you get heat when everything is covered with plastic and stuffed up by windshields, roofs and doors.

noisy, yes ITS A FRIGGIN TWIN CYLINDER and damn right it should sound like one.

I don't find it loud, but we wear helmets, which cuts down on the noise a bit. I haven't rode in dusty conditions yet, but it is an open vehicle, so I would expect dust to get into it.
I think if it more like a big comfy quad than a truck.

I think that might be the answer as to why your getting so much heat Skippy...You're cutting down your ventilation... And raise your windshield up to cut down on the dust problem...might help with the cooling also...

megadesertdiesel--not my first rodeo

Everyone else-thanks for the feed back. I opened up the areas under the seat in hopes that will reduce the engine heat, but wonder if trade off will be more dust. I'm going to invest in the smoked half windshield, the 1/2 windshield I have now form fits the body at the bottom so raising it up and down easily isn't possible. With the smoked one i can even raise it up almost to the top to act as a visor when riding back in the evening and the sun is directly in your eyes.

Again all-in-all much smoother ride than the rhino, great power steering super fuel mileage....

Guess I should ask if there is a tinted non-form (at bottom) 1/2 windshield for the T4? so it can easily be raised and lowered?

I'd guess the dust issue is the windshield. It causes a low pressure area behind it that draws the dust in. I have a 1/2 shield on mine, and it does pull the dust in. I had no windshield on my Rhino, but got just as dusty. Nature of the beast. The thing I don't like is the rear driveline clunk...very sloppy & noisy. But this ride is far better than my Rhino...plus lots of room for the kids & cooler!

I've removed the covers under the seat to try and reduce the heat. I hope the trade off isn't more dust? I'm going to raise the 1/2 windshield up a couple of inches and see if that helps some? On my 1/2 windshield I have supports in the middle at the bottom so I will either have to remove them or drill two additional holes close to the bottom to allow attaching it but have it still in a raised position.

And "yes" it is so much better than anything else out there in my opinion!!

I am with you on the driveline whine, it is LOUD!
However, we love the T4 overall.
