I went to use my winch yest barely stuck and the winch stopped spooling in or out..The solenoid will click but that's all..anyone know what it could be I'm thinking the motor gave out..I'm pretty pissed since they claim they are one of the best and I spent good money on one then it gave out after barely ever using it...
My 4-year old Viper did the same last night. Click,click...Took the motor off it today, cleaned the armature-plate and brushes. Back to working great. Hopefully Motoalliance will fix you up.
Ima call them tomorrow if I have time but I plan on taking the motor off and cleaning it.. just disappointed and wanted to see if people have been having problems
I got a viper max on the T4 back in November, used the hell out it, still workin fine, like anything else, crap happens. I take mine apart atleast once a season to clean/regrease it.
Ive had 2 and wont likely have any more. The first one was a 2500 on a ATV. Only used it for the plow and barely at that. Hardly had any snow that year. That next summer went to use it to pull myself up a hill that I spun out trying to climb and it was dead. Wouldent even spool the line back in. Then when I tried to get parts for it I couldent. Was discontinued and no longer made parts so it was junk. Then bought a 5k for my previouse Ranger. Rite out of the box brand new it got so hot doing the respool of the cable with only me pulling on the cable to make it tight that it melted the seals out of the gear side of the unit. When I called they refered me to a tech somewhere else and he said to just keep running it and if it ever completely quite to wory abought it then. It leaked grease from that point on. It was so hot after pulling only 1/4 the cable in you couldent put your hand on the gear side for several minutes. Personaly I will never ever be dealing with them again.
Have had my 5K for about a year now. Don't think iv been on a ride yet where I haven't used it at least once. It's been completely submerged in water and mud more times than I can count. Iv had no problems with it so far. Guess I got a good one lol.
Buying a tyrex is just a down payment for its accessories!
if moisture gets in the winch it can cause corrosion and the brushes will stick. I have a viper as well but never had a problem with it. I also have a warn that does this every time I use it, a couple taps to motor and it starts working. I need to pull it apart and clean it and seal it back up.
Took the gear box off the winch holy crap it was nasty water dirt and bad grease...I already cleaned about half but couldn't take any pics I'll add pics of what I have left later....
Haven't got to the inspection part haven't finished cleaning it yet..what you see is where I left it..I will finish through the week and give me updates as I can..I'm thinking the free spool knob was that issue
Did you have to remove the winch, or is it still mounted?
