Cognito Goes Racing! Mint 400, 2012

Called the biggest off road race of the year, The Mint 400 legend lives on and now includes UTV’s in its list of warriors for the first time! This is only the fourth Best In The Desert race Cognito has entered, and each race has been a learning experience! After the starting order came out for the UTV’s and Lambert drew 21st start, it was obvious dust was on the menu for breakfast and lunch! The first 10 miles of the race was very dusty, and as the Kawasaki Teryx came upon slower traffic, the dust was hiding some nasty rocks puncturing the sidewall of the right rear tire. Co-driver Justin Shaekley hopped out of the car and got to work changing the spare. Back on course with the next pit stop 25 miles ahead, caution had to be taken to avoid another flat since the car carries only one spare. Reaching Pit 1 was no problem, as a fresh spare was fastened to the car. The whoops and rollers made the UTV’s look pretty small on this course, it being the roughest of the 4 courses we have raced on so far. Pit 2 came quick as we reached top speed of 75 mph on the flats via GPS, stopping in pit for a quick check of tires and suspension components. 50 miles out from the finish line a broken rear cv joint was holding us back from charging too hard, rather than stop in pit to change it, we decided to gamble and keep rolling the dice for the next 20 miles to the finish line. We knew we could save 5 minutes by gambling, as long as we didn’t lose the drive axle on the other side of the car. We passed teammate Sean Cook in the Cognito Polaris XP4 about 8 miles before the finish, Sean also had the same odds driving on a broken cv joint as he pressed on to the finish. The gamble paid off, The Cognito Kawasaki Teryx finished 4th at the 2012 Mint 400 with Sean Cook in the Cognito Polaris XP4 in close 5th!

Same here. We will hook up for that frosty beverage. I'm thinking about picking up a ride for the race tho. On another forum, a BITD employee has his race ready can am up for rent for the race... arrive and drive deal. $2500 and bring your own safety gear. He supplies everything, including chase and pit support. That's a great deal to be able to run the Mint.... Hmmmmm
