Stock tires any good?

So I'm new to the UTV world and just recently I picked up a brand new, 2010 Teryx sport.

My buddy has an 09 and told me that the stock maxxis are crap...

He has 27' big horns on his and he loves them. Thing is, I just dropped a lot of money on buying the teryx, and getting some accessories. I don't mind spending more on new tires/wheels if I have to, but I was wondering if the stock tires would be sufficient for trail riding.

Seems like almost everyone who owns one, replaces the tires right off the bat...

I got 1800 miles out of mine and I just replaced them with Maxxis Ceros. These miles where trail riding, rocks and a little pavement. i would give them a try.

Brand new 2010?

Bighorns seem to be the ones to have.

For just trail riding the stockers are fine.

Over 180 hrs of traversing all kinds of nasty terrain, rocks, mud, sand, and racing - have held up just fine.

the stock tires are light,2 ply tires. theyre ok. i gashed one up pretty good before i replaced the set. i went with sedona buzz saw tires and sedona spider wheels. the whole shootin match was $835 mounted.ive been happy with them. the machine doesnt push in the corners on gravel with the sedona tires. i hated that about the stockers.

Stock tires are good tires. Are there better tires? Yes, but it all comes down to terrain and preference.

CA keep stock ones

I was lucky that mine used 2010 came with itp ss rims and big horn tires but if not I would in the same situation. Since you did just drop a ton on the teryx and aftermarket parts just keep the stock tires on and beat the hell out of them and enjoy your teryx!
Start to do some homework on different wheel/tire combos online and in a couple of months you will come across a great deal.
Just go out there and own any trail with your new toy!
When I started buying aftermarket pieces it became so addicting and expensive. Have fun with everything!

I would say they are good for stock tires, better than most stock tires however not sure why they'd put a 2 ply tire on a 1200+Lb SxS, not likely going to hold up well. I switch mine with only 160km on it, they were already starting to show wear and I only ran them on snow and ice which shouldn't wear them as much. I went with 27" Maxxis Zillas, they're super light, deep lugs, 6 ply and got them for 612.00 installed taxes inc. Most people I know love the Big Horns and Terra Cross, so you wouldn't be wrong in trying them too. Try and stay light unless you want to start upgrading your clutch. Try looking at this link, very useful to find tires and tire weights. http://www.mudinmyblood.net/forum/vi...ireweightchart

I had no problems with my stockers and I have a lot of rocky riding in the northeast here. They mudded fairly well I guess. I only swapped them out cause I had other tires from my old quad.

Thanks a tonne for all your help and input guys!

After dropping 12 grand, I don't know if I want to buy brand new tires right off the bat.

I'd rather get an msd. Also, my buddy loves his 27' big horns so I just might go with those when I do decide to get new tires.

Your tires on the 2010 should be a 4 ply tire, mine are. I have rode twice up in Brown Mountain in some pretty rocky stuff, mud, water, wet rocks, etc. The 4 ply's are a lot better than the 2 plys from previous years. I've been looking around at tires since I've bought mine....don't rush into it, i'd rate mine a 7 overall. I've yet to get stuck or have them cause a wrong maneuver.

ohh and the wear is just so-so.

I'm fairly pleased with how the stockers perform as well. Better than any other stock tire I've ever run.
