What winch?

And does it need a mount? Looks like it just needs the winch bolted on to me.

Yeah, I thought that too until I measured the mounting holes...and they aren't even close to the two standard winch mount hole patterns....

I have a MotoAlliance mount coming, covers both the narrow and wide mount options...$54 on Ebay...

HOWEVER, I do not know if it fits the OEM Teryx4 mount holes...but I'll post up if/when it does

I'm installing a 5k Badlands from HF (yeah, HF....get over it). I've got a 4.5k Viper Elite on my RZR from MotoAlliance and it did a FINE job of winching my own RZR up the waterfall on Upper Helldorado in Moab, as well as the 4 Teryx's behind me

I was at the Harbor Freight quality facility in Los Angeles in Nov and they had a 3500 sitting in a fish tank...for a month...and when they put power to it, it worked. Another was put thru a salt bath, a years worth, and it worked too...have a 12k on the front of my 1996 FZJ80 and it works perfectly....so we'll see how the 5k holds up....

if it can break, I can break it...ha!

Now I'm confused. Just came baack from the dealer and both the new teryx and the teryx4 have similar looking mounts on the front. Did they change the winch mount on the two seater for 2012? He showed me a mount and said it would fit both units, but it was $114.

Looked very similar to this one. VIPER Winch Mount KAWASAKI TERYX New UTV | eBay

FINAL word on the MotoAllliance winch plate: it DOES fit...HOWEVER...

You must remove the sway bar...at least for the 5000# Badlands model I installed...easy process, two 14m nuts off the upper suspension arms and eight 12mm bolts for the mounting to the front of the frame...AND, the front skid/pretty plate has to go...

The MotoAlliance plate works...the 4 holes that drop down thru the factory frame plate match. I honestly do NOT like how far forward the fairlead sits with the MotoAlliance setup, there's little reason to not have the fairlead mounted immediately ahead of the winch rather than hanging out in space like it does...but that likely is something that an aftermarket bumper would address anyways.

The Badlands 5k is SNUG against the front of the chassis...really, this is the largest of large winches that anyone would consider, so the worst case fitment option is nice

I don't like sway bars. At all. Have a rear-only on my RZR, the All Terrain Research HD disconnectable one, and unless I'm REALLY pushing the drifting, it's disconnected. It DOES make a difference, but if I'm hammering turns...Front was removed almost immediately.

Pics cover it all, questions welcome:

Really, I'm not sure what other options there will be, other than drilling directly into the existing chassis plate. (which, honestly, really, why aren't those 4 holes set for a standard winch mount in the first place??)

Relocating the MotoAlliance (or other) plate further forward only pushes it closer to the front of the bumper...while there IS room, there isn't enough to push it forward and keep the sway bar...at least not with a winch this size...

curious to see what other manuf's are doing with the plate setups (or just drilling)

good pics. I am mostly curious how well does the 5K Badlands winch work.

I am going to mount a class 3 adapter to the front plate. So I can then use the winch ion the front or the rear.

I have a 15k MileMarker, a 12k MileMarker, a 12k Badlands, a 5k Badlands, a 4.5k Viper, a 8k Warn, a 1.7k Warn and an ancient 8k Warn...mmm, yeah, I think that's it...

the 12k Badlands is currently on my FZJ80 Land Cruiser, and other than a 'too short' controller wire that they have corrected at manufacturing, it's worked flawlessly. UT, TN, and more for testing.

IMO, I hate multimount winches...they are always attached to the wrong end...or are poorly mounted...or the winch point is buried...my opinion, but 99.999% of my winching over 20+ years (yes, since 1989) has been forward...front mount, or buy a come-a-long....

I put a 4500 superwinch on my new unit. I left ghe sway bar on and the front skid plate. The biggest problem is the wiring lugs. They are on a 45 and hit the front bumper.i did drill the front mount and put staggered spacers to tilt the winch. Workex like a champ on my new years ride last night. Well worth the 200 from amazon.

I just bought a RT40 WARN Winch and WARN bumper off my buddy the other day for 100$ "so I was determind to make this work no matter what".. I went to mount it yesterday and of course it didnt fit. He had a 2008 and I have a 2010 teryx so after some trimming of the plastic guard around the radiator and cutting the bumper all up. We made new down supports and re located the winch to the factory mounting spot and a new skid plate. I have to say its pretty sweet A$$ looking.. But ill let u guys be the judge..

Got my 5000# viper installed today. I removed the two lower bolts on the sway bar on the drivers side, but got to keep the sway bar. I had to modify the light metal trim piece that goes on the bumper a bit, but got to keep it as well.

Added the pic, also installed the soft top and a kawi full windshield today.

I went with a 3000# KFI and already used it twice. Seems to be plenty strong. I could not justify spending twice the price for a Warn. I had a Viper on my Grizzly and it worked well. Went with KFI at time of purchase and had the dealer install. 3000# I think is plenty. Twice the weight of the vehicle...

I am putting on an XT-30 on mine. Did not use a bracket just drilled holes in the factory plate. All I have left to do is find a hot ignition wire and button her up.
