Extreme hesitation/bogging down

Good morning all,

Still driving the 2015 T4. 2500 miles and 600 hours on it.

I pulled it out of the garage a few weeks ago and she would barely move under any throttle position. I can hear the engine "bog" down. While I'm driving, if keeping the throttle in the same position, every once in awhile, she will come alive for a brief second, then bog back down.

Very, very low power. Has a hard time crawling up the edge of my driveway, which is about 4" high.

As a side note, I have not added any accessories or mods since it last ran good and was parked. Fuel is about 3 months old and doesn't smell bad.

Suggestions?

Check the fuel pump/float/sending unit in the fuel tank. There is a little screen that clogs the inlet to the pump. Some have removed/drilled it out. Also check the fuel tank vet. I would also drain the fuel if its 3 months old. Even most premium still has the ethonal in it. After that check the spark plugs, and air filter.

I was going to suggest the same thing as Justin. When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? My t4 started bogging out all of a sudden a while back. I changed the fuel filter, air filter, and spark plugs and it ran strong again (I sort of wish I did those one at a time to determine what actually fixed the problem).

I appreciate the feedback. Gonna look at the fuel pump sock first.

Well, after looking into it further, it seems the front cylinder is down. I've checked for spark, which seems fine. Also, when pulling the plug, after running it, there is raw fuel on the electrode. Also, changed fuel pump sock, cleaned tank and added fresh fuel. Cleaned both plugs too.

I've come to the conclusion of the front cylinder being dead by running the engine with each plug wire disconnected separately. With the front unplugged, there is no difference in starting, idling or reving...although it doesn't run well. With the rear unplugged, the motor will just turn over and not start.

I'm guessing my next step would be a compression test. Anyone know if it's uncommon for one valve or valves to go that far out of adjustment? I really don't think it's a ring issue with that low of miles and decent maintenance.

Any advice?

Did you try putting a new plug in it? Or just making sure the plug wire hadn't come loose somewhere?

I just went through the exact same thing. Started out as sporadic bogging after hard acceleration, then it sat for a couple of weeks and was a constant miss/bog. Found the front cylinder wasn't firing. Pulled the front plug and it was wet with fuel. Put a fresh plug in it and it now runs great. Generally I do the full trouble-shooting procedure to verify exactly what the problem is versus blindly throwing parts at it. However in this situation I wanted to put a fresh set of plugs in it regardless so slapped a fresh plug in it and found it ran great so left it at that. This is also considering new plugs are only a few dollars each.

FYI - I was about 90% sure it was a dead cylinder based on how it was behaving. I did put a new fuel filter on it first just to make sure....it's easier to do and it needed a fresh filter simply for maintenance purposes like I mentioned about the plugs above.....but the filter made no difference.

Yikes, slow down. Spark? Fuel? Make sure its fresh fuel and new plug and wire n coil are working properly. 99% time its one of these and not a engine... Weak spark is often the problem...

Ok. When we skip the basics, it usually backfires on us...no pun intended, lol. So like I said in my post above, I checked for spark on both plug wires...the both were good using the 'ole screwdriver trick. However, one would think to also check the plugs at that time too. But, I had a case of head up a$$ on that day.

After lying in bed a couple days later, I realized, "Hey, I didn't check the plugs for spark". So...the next day, check the plugs and found the front plug to be faulty. Well, $8 later, the T4 is running strong again.

As a side note, my fiance' said, why wouldn't you have checked them in the first place, lol.

No worry, I had an issue once I couldn't figure out. It was e brake not completey down. Great its fixed for $8. Ya did change both...

Yea, changed both. Figure 5 years of so many hours if was time anyway.

I try to keep Sta-bil or equivalent in my my lawn equipment, generator and etc. during off season. The Teryx gets ran enough it's never been an issue.
