2012 Teryx crapping out in gear

Hello all, although I am new to the forum, I have read many posts’ as a guest trying to figure out what is happening with my ride. I purchased a 2012 Teryx 2 750 recently from a dealer that took it in on a trade. Apparently, the previous owner sunk it in a mud hole and broke the belt while trying to exit. Instead of fixing the problem, he traded it in for a newer model. I purchased the ride 1 1/2 years later to discover that it had sat in the gated lot virtually untouched ever since being traded. after installing a new battery and new fuel, the ol’ thing cranked right up, but began spewing water out of the belt case. After removing the case, I found that both clutches were corroded beyond repair so I purchased used clutches and had Vforcejohn work his magic. After installing the new clutches, the bike ran great for about 30 minutes of slow and safe riding. After letting my young son drive for a few minutes, I realized that he wasn’t ready to drive yet so I jumped back in the drivers seat. When I put it back in gear and attempted to accelerate, it began to surge dramatically with VERY little power and almost dying. After towing it home, I began trying to diagnose and these are the things I have done so far... replaced the fuel filter, checked fuel pump and it’s showing 43 psi, replaced spark plugs, checked air filter and it is fine, replaced the speed sensor. It starts up fine and idles beautifully, I can even rev the engine and it reacts perfectly, but when I put it in gear and try to accelerate, it begins to surge back and forth... high rpm’s to low rpm’s and will barely surge forward. I’m getting no belt or fuel injection light on the display either. Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome nice fish ya got there
I'm no expert you said it has fuel pressure but there's been a lot of troubles with the fuel tank vent hose needing a inline filter to stop dirt & mud plugging the fuel pump sock filter Check valve on vent line ?
Or diff lock speed limiter ?

Very valuable info gentlemen! Never considered the parking brake! I was thinking that it had to be some kind of limiter, because it runs perfectly in neutral and I can rev it up with no problem but as soon as it is put in gear (forward or reverse), it begins to act up. It will still idle just fine but as soon as I try to accelerate, it surges badly. Thanks! I will post the results of both remedies!

Always a chance it is a limiter, either the parking brake on or even a bad sensor making it think something is going on. I don't know for sure how the older machines are set up but on my 2015 T4 it will only go about 5 mph and surge badly if the parking brake is just barely on.

The other thing is fuel delivery. Did you check fuel pressure under a load, or just idling or with the key on? It doesn't take much fuel volume to rev up in neutral because there is no load on the engine, so because it idles fine and revs up in neutral doesn't necessarily mean it's getting enough fuel. If there was a bunch of debris (mud/dirt/water) in the fuel tank it will quickly plug up a new filter.

Fuel. Plugged/dirty. Injector/carb plugged. Sitting that long allows ethanol to gum up, try some good rich inj cleaner. IMOP. Load on engine is showing ya. Can ya run it with fuel pressure hooked up to verify fuel delivery? Tank assembly would be second thing I look at restricting volume need when loaded.

I am very pleased to report after about a week of trying to diagnose this thing and throwing parts at it that it was simply because the parking brake was simply not releasing all the way to the top so after simply pulling it up by hand, it works fine! Thank you so much gentlemen for your advise! It is priceless! You have saved me from a deep depression! Ha!

Does it lose power but not die when You push into the accelerator? Can you drive it at low Speeds but it won’t let you have any force out of the engine ?
