12V Outlet in Glove Box

I have purchased a 2009 Teryx 750 NRA edition. I notice it has an outlet in the glove box but it looks like a special plug. Any ideas on what this could be used for? I have looked for but not seen any optional equipment that might plug into it.

Appreciate any feedback. I have been researching the wiring and noticed a prior owner had tapped into the red wire to this plug. It appears to be switch on hot; not constant hot.

Without seeing it, my guess would be for a phone. You say there is power to it, otherwise a special plug might be a wired remote for a winch. I can't think of any reason other than to charge a phone for there to be a factory outlet there.

I do have one other guess and that is a battery charger. Some of the trickle chargers would have different ends to plug into. I use a lot of battery juniors and could see maybe running a pigtail through the back of the glovebox.

mine has your typical OG cigarette lighter plug, yeah a phone or power charger. although mine doesnt seem to power an air/fuel ratio meter i am using so its probably not that good of a power source. but originally factory

I will attach a pic tomorrow.

It is not like any outlet/receptacle I have seen.

A previous owner did connect to the red wire (spliced) to get switch on power for added lights.

Having lots of “discovery” trying to reverse engineer the wiring!!!

Update with Pics

Here are pics of the receptacle in the glove box. As you can see it is not the standard cigarette plug-in. I have a standard 12 V cigarette type on the dash.

I can only imagine that it was pre-wired to allow some type of remote for a winch but do not know for sure.

Any comments?

Yes, it is still on the Teryx. Just got back from some "reverse engineering and verified the wiring from the glove box recept. does go to the winch controller. Also, found out the dash mounted "in-out" switch is backward.

Lots of discovery; will have to replace the fan circuit breaker with an inline fuse I got ordered. Found some kind of crazy "HID device" inline to the front LED light bar??? Still got to get that sorted out as they do not work.

I really bought somebody's troubles!!

P T, I would be interested in your remote if you can send me some picks and can verify it will fit the receptacle I have.

Manu thanks to P T, phelpsaz and SDSam as I continue my "discovery journey".

Next up is the fuel filter. I decided to try the cheap sock first to see if it made any difference before ponying up the big bucks for a new fuel pump assembly.

Don't think of it as buying someone's troubles, think of it as a project, I enjoy the customizeing more than I do the riding, gives me something to do to relax myself 😁

This is a very good example of why one of the first things I do is install a fuse box just for accessories I'm going to add.

P.T,

I appreciate your offer and would like to reciprocate. I will send you a PM with my address.

I have the gun cases that came with the NRA edition Teryx and I do not need them. Would you like them or know anyone who could use them?

Incidentally, my son has asked me to get a hobby since I have retired. Looks like trying to get this 2009 Teryx into running shape may be my new hobby or project.

It’s not relaxing to me. However, after a day working on my 9 acres with a good utility vehicle, Ican relax on my back porch with an adult beverage, cigar and then relax.
