Dune Riding Flag

Looking to head to Silver Lake Sand Dunes here in Michigan. I'm required to have a 10 foot flag mounted to the front, which I do not have yet. Where do I find one? Everything I come across is 6ft. Anyone have a flag hotspot??

10ft is flatout stupid... They do have them all over amazon so I would order a couple in case they don't stand up to the heat/force as well. Me personally I would order one of the regular 6ft ones and keep a couple 10fters in the truck or trailer just in case though. Also some places are strict and require rectangle shape flags vs triangle and others so check that too. I can't stand when they are super strict with that stuff.

10 ft rextable flag. Grab some zip ties or some flag mounts from rockymountain atv

I agree, 10' is a little ridiculous, it'll be flappin' all over the place. But; rules is rules. As far as mounting it to the cage, a clamp-on whip mount from RMMS, then get air hose ends- both ends, from Harbor freight or HD. Put the end that usually is on your compressor hose into the whip mount, and JB Weld the whip into the end that is usually on the air tool. Quick release, easy peasy. And, I have never lost one due to coming uncoupled.
We don't use one where I ride most of the summer, but our club requires one for guides when guiding rides. Good luck!

I have been told that they sell 10ft flags at silver lake. Though I have not been there myself to verify. I was planning to call them to make sure before going up there when I decide to go.

They sell the 10 footers at Silver Backs right before you enter the main parking lot. They run about $30 for the flag and another $30 or so for the mount. I believe they are cheaper at the other shop, but i liked the quality that silver backs had. Last Saturday was my first time taking my teryx 4 to the dunes and boy was it fun! took me a couple shots to make it up test hill but she made it. I was told they wouldn't make it. With the teryx not being a dune machine, she still did very well and i had a great time exploring and ripping up the sand. I hope you have a great time too!! good luck.

First things first - I don’t have any dunes where we ride so in this I’m stupid. But a question, do they require the mast to be 10’ long or does the flag have to be 10’ high? If it’s the flag then you’d only need a mast that’s about 5-6’ high as you would measure from ground level to the mounting point. If it’s total height then you would be adding the height up to the mounting point - resulting in an additional 3-4’ height. That’s awfully high to have something whipping around creating a safety issue on its own for others around you.

When you are about to pull into the park, Silver Lake (MI), they have an entry gate with a horizontal pole that your flag has to smack as you drive through. So 10' from the ground. I too thought the height was a bit extreme; however, after spending the day out there i get why it can be helpful. A few times i was able to just barely see the tip of the flag before i drove over a hill/crest and was able to stop or slow down early enough to avoid a collision. Keep in mind that i was out there on a busy Saturday so lots of machines driving around. With that said, i fount plenty of places to get "lost" and ride without feeling like the park was packed. Silver Lake is a wonderful place and cost Zero $ once you have the flag, park pass, and ORV tags. The parking lot vouchers are free and with the new expanded parking lots, getting in and out is much easier. Good luck!
