Been lurking the forums for a long time reading and learning. Been wanting a SxS for several years after going with friends to Goldsboro, NC and riding in the passenger seat for the first time in a Polaris 800. Always been into cars/bikes (have owned multiple harleys, also a charger hellcat) but the fun i had just riding in the passenger seat was amazing. Fast foward about 4 years and now having two kids (4 and 2) I started to look for a SxS that the family and I could enjoy together. Still have a Harley (wife is making me get rid of it now) but finally went and picked up a 19 Teryx 4 (none LE) on Friday. Haven't been able to take her offroad yet due to work but cannot wait! Just riding her around the neighborhood has been fun. My oldest daughter was scared at first but after the first ride she wants to none stop go now.

One thing i'm upset about is that I just learned today (after checking the website) that I can't take my family to Hatfield Mccoys cause they don't allow anyone under 6 on the trails. Was really looking forward to (at least i thought) would be a weekend cabin trips there and riding during the day with the family. Now i'm highly upset I can't go there but it is what it is.

If anybody knows anywhere near Stokesdale, NC knows family friendly places to ride please let me know!

Anyway going to pick up a Badland winch tomorrow and doing the fuel vent and rear diff mod to get it out of the way while she is still new (only 7 miles on her).

Welcome to the forum. Iím from Greensboro NC. There is a few places to ride around this area but nothing huge. Check out this site
https://www.riderplanet-usa.com/

My son is currently 6 and has been riding the Hatfield McCoy trails since he was 3. The at least 6 years old and no booster seat rule has been in effect around a year or 1.5 years. I never had any issues with any one saying anything. Even had the H&M guy stop and talk to us and not say a word about his age or the booster seat he was sitting in. Iíve not heard of any officer enforcing this rule yet.

I put a booster seat in the rear with extra foam and some eye bolts to mount it too. Added 4 point harnesses to help hold them in better. The booster seat raised him up so the harnesses would work better. Also added nets to the sides on the rear to help prevent limbs from getting inside and smacking them.

Welcome to the forum. I've had my little ones on the H&M trails as well. Never ran into an LEO on the trail with them though.

Welcome to the Forum! Ah Goldsburo NC. I've been to the Beach there many times! More fun on an ATV though if you ask me. Like others here, I too frequent H&M and I agree, the cops and rangers are very easy to get along with. (If you ever see one!) If you stick to the green and blue trails (and outlaws of course) nobody will hassle you. If you flip it over on a double-black and need an air-lift, then they will probably not be too happy with you bringing a little kid on that ride!

Barefoot has a lot of seat time on those trails so I would value his tips and tricks. He already gave you the RiderPlanet link, so be sure to check that out as well.

I'm headed out to H&M in the morning. Going to be cold and wet. In other words, PERFECT CONDITIONS!

Maybe I'll see you out there sometime?

Again, welcome to the board!

Good to know about H&M was going to real disappointed if I couldn't rent a cabin and take the family. Took her out for the first time just on my buddies property to rip around his turn track that he hasn't used it a while. Thing performed great besides a small jumps, man will she nose dive due to the weight. Bought the Badland 5000 Winch and KFI winch plate and now just have to put it on. Tryihng to get to Catfish in a few weeks but think I have every weekend basically busy for the next month or so. We shall see.

And Barefoot do you have any pics of the booster seat setup by chance? Have to order the harness bar and 4pt harnesses for each seat but would like to see the setup if you had any pics.

I wouldnít recommend going to catfish at all. Its more suited for 4wheelers.

Iíll see if I can a pic of the booster seat. Basically it was a $10 seat bottom from Walmart. Went to hobby lobby and bought some really thick foam and put it under the cloth of the booster seat so his butt wouldnít start hurting on long rides. Also drill 2 holes in the seat frame and put eye bolts in them to attach the hooks from the booster seat. Installed seat bezels for the harnesses to go through. Worked better than going around the seat. I also had nets for the rear to keep limbs from hitting him as well. I would take a a pic for you but I sold the Teryx back in July. Iíll see if I can find them somewhere.

I saw the rule changes 2 weeks before I had a scheduled trip with my 4 year old. We never saw LEO, but I instructed him to tell anyone to talk to me if they asked his age. He was tall at 4 also. There are also trails in VA (Spearhead Trails, the original Pocahontas system) that doesn’t have an age restriction. We stayed at Trails End Campground. The VA trails start there, but H&M was only 6 miles by roads away, and they have an ATV route to connect in Bramwell. We rode the VA trails for a little while on Fri night but rode H&M on Sat and Sunday. We are in the same dilemma for Thanksgiving weekend as now I have a 3 year old and can’t make up my mind on which trails to ride. H&M def has more mileage.

spiG welcome to the forum from Winston Salem, I've been camping above Ashland Resort for the last 15 yrs along with a bunch of your neighbors. go over to Stoke Ridge Tavern about any weekend and ask about Party Rock or Hilltop Escape campground. You might know some of them already.
