Sooo after the '14s recall is it better?

For those of you that had the belt and clutches replaced how is it working now? How's the performance ?

Shifts realy smooth, hooks up great, no slipping or burning I seem to have pretty good lowend and also a bit more on top Im pretty happy with the first ride on the new setup it was dry out no water in the riverbed, loose pebbles sandy rock usaly in 2wheel drive but now so loose had to keep in4wheel so had a bigger drag than normal coolant was running around 185 normaly for me down there its at about160/165 and my belt was running at 150 so Im thinking its a good setup sofar

Last sunday was our first run on the new setup, performed great, we usually crawl around loggin roads at 10-15 mph. Before belt temp was around 145, now it hangs around 130. Dont know why it was running cooler, but it ran great and that's what matters. As far as dependable...... I let ya know after a few hundred miles lol but I have noticed even before the recall of whatever u wana call it, that if you baby the throttle, it heats the belt quicker, if your a little more aggressive with the throttle it seems to help keep it cooler.

Still trying to get my dealer to acknowledge there IS a recall. I have a 2014 T4 and a 2014 T2. Both are still running the old setup because Kawi and their dealers seem to NOT be in communication at all.

250 miles on my le with the new parts. I never drove it with the old ones. But it hasn't missed a step or slipped. Really liking my new ride.

Did you run your VIN on their website? Call Kawi cust service and have them contact your dealer.

He said it's got a lighter spring for faster shifting. Which lowers performance and will probably hurt hillclimbing. That is opposite of what I want. Should get my teryx back tomorrow.
I'll be ordering a clutch kit from john very soon. I don't want higher gearing. I want hill climbing power. I don't care if it won't run but. 51 mph.
Can't run fast in the woods.

I have not had the FDM done yet. A friend said his don't seem to have the same engine-braking as it did before. Which makes sense.

Kawasaki consumer services are not aware of changes to spring rate of a drive converter. The only difference they claim is the angle of the sheaves on drive converter pulleys and the belt.

2014 T4 800 LE Orange - FUTV 1/2" full skid plate kit, 2013 style CVT intake snorkel, upgraded upper front A-Arms bushings, extended fuel tank breather hose to roof level, extended rear diff breather hose, HL 2" lift kit, 2" wheel spacers, 30" Roctanes on STi HD5 bead locks, home made spare tire mount, 5K lbs Badland winch with 1/4" synthetic rope.

Engine braking on my T4 is massive. If FDM delivers less engine braking, i would be happy. Most of the time when i crawl down hill engine braking is enough for a safe descent but if i push brakes, the descent becomes too slow. Kawasaki manual suggest to use engine braking in conjunction with foot brakes in order to prolong the life of the belt.

I have my FDM done next week. I will report back the results from mud and rock climbing conditions.

Vforcejohn has tested the spring rates on both drive converters pre-FDM and updated version. Said spring rates are lighter on updated version. So why not have the FDM done to your bike, and then order the heavier spring from OEM. Its only $20. This FDM is not mandatory. Only optional.

I compared an old CVT converter and the the new CVT converter, the only difference is the sheave angle. The sheaves angle on the new converter is bit greater, Kawasaki must have used old style converters and shaved off a little material from the sheaves. New 040 belt and old 039 belt (with 300miles) appeared measured about the same, old belt meassured around 1mm less most likely due to wear. No wonder why I did not notice any difference when I rode with a new converter and belt.

I took some pictures....

Old converter on the left, new on the right:




The springs appeared identical, same wire diameter, same number of winds, same lenght, same colot (blue), similar weight (new spring was 111.8g, old srping 113.9g), springs felt the same when compressed by hands (not exactly an accurate way to measure).

The old and new ramp weights measured the same around 92.3g

Great job man. You out did yourself. Seems like mine is a tad taller geared though. I rode if yesterday on some nasty hills and had no issues.

Got mine back Friday from dealer on clutch/belt replace. Haven't had it off road yet but seems to engage in gear smoother?? Prior to this I bought a #39 belt as a spare but never used it. I gather that this belt wont work on my new setup, right? If not, I'd like to sell it. I paid $140+. Would take $100 shipped. Thanks

I guess mine was a late enough model I didnt need the fdm but I've read on here they have been taking your spare if you bought one and trading it out for the new belt. May ask your dealer..

Did you all get to keep your old clutch or did the dealer keep it. Just wondering because my dealer kept mine. By the way my belt finally came apart. The mechanic said the new clutch changed the angle because the belt was not getting full contact on the sheave.
