My '12 T4 Camo build for the rocks

After a lot of thought and consideration, I've decided to move on from the world of Jeeps. To date I've had a total of (8) Jeep's ranging from bone stock, to mild, to hardcore streetable, to full on trailer only buggy. I'm burnt out!

After spending some time out on the trails and in Moab with my brother in his Polaris RZR XP...I've got the Side by side itch...and I got it BAD! We put that RZR through its paces, and it did everything I wanted and more. Not only did it climb crap that blew me away, it climbed it with ease and at a pace that a Jeep could only dream of without falling into pieces by the end of the trail. The best part was after a 4 day trip in Moab, he brought it home...washed it, tossed it in the garage and never put a wrench on it. It was ready to go again!

After a lot of going back and forth between what to get and what not to get, it came down to two options since I have a wife and kid.

Option A). Polaris RZR XP 4 seater. The major downside though is the retarded long wheelbase and the ugly price tag of nearly $20K.

Option B). Kawasaki Teryx 4 seater. Nice manageable wheelbase, decent room for passengers, clutched better for the rocks, and a LOT cheaper.

I mainly rock crawl and trail ride. I spend a lot of time in Moab, as well as run a lot of the rocky local trails where I live in Colorado. I decided the ultimate platform for me would be the Teryx 4. I managed to find a left over 2012 Camo at a local dealer and scored it for a really good price. Here is a pic the day I picked it up.

So far I've spent a small mint on this thing. Here is a list of the parts that I've ordered:

*HCR Long Travel kit with King Coilovers
*Factory UTV full skid and sliders
*Kawi plastic hard top
*20" LED light bar for the bumper
*40" LED light bar for the top
* (4) 30x10x14 GBC Mongrel's
* (4) 14x7 STI HD3 wheels
* Wally bed lift

I'm sure there are more things that I'm forgetting about!

Some parts have shown up already:

Had my little commuter truck stuffed with boxes

40" LED Bar

20" LED Bar mounted & the roof mounted

The wheels came too

Tires that I ordered from Sxs Performance

Nice comparison shot with the stock Big Horns

And right now I'm just waiting on my HCR kit, Factory UTV skids, and my Wally's bed lift. I got a call on Wednesday saying that my HCR kit had shipped, so I should be seeing that on Monday or Tuesday I hope. I'm PUMPED to get that installed!

So that's the scoop on my build so far. I'll update this with pictures once I get the rest of the stuff in. Hopefully should have this bad boy up and rockin' by next weekend!

Thanks guys! I'm really looking forward to getting this thing done and hitting the trails once they open up.

I did have one slight issue with it already and had to take it back to the dealer. The first time I've drove this after I picked it up, it ended up cutting out on me a few times and belching a massive cloud of blue smoke. I checked the oil, and it showed signs of moisture....so I loaded it up and took it back.

They tore into it and found the plugs were fouled, and that there was definitely condensation in the oil. They changed the oil, put in new plugs, and not only ran it on their dyno, but also took it out on their test track and put almost 15 miles on it trying to get it to do it again. So far it appears to be fixed.

The only conclusion they could come up with was that since they sit outside at the dealer, the combination of freezing temps at night, starting them in the morning to move them out front, warm temps during the day, starting them to put them away, and then freezing again is what may be causing the condensation.....not to mention the frequent starting and shutting off is bad on plugs.

Just for piece of mind, they checked all the other units they had on the lot, and most of them had moisture in the oil as well. So they took every unit, and not only changed the oil, but also changed the plugs so no one else had the same issue as me.

Not to sure...I haven't put them on yet. I'm waiting to get the Long Travel installed and then they'll be getting put on. From talking with a few others that run a 30" tire on the T4, it sounds like it doesn't hurt the performance to bad. I guess I'll find out shortly.

Purely cost at the moment. I'll eventually get some down the road, but these wheels will do fine for the time being. Between what I paid for the T4 and the rest of this crap....I have over $20,000 in it, so I needed to let the flames on my checking account die down a little bit!

I've been eyeballing these....

I'll more than likely end up putting paddles on the rims I just bought once I get beadlocks.

Those mongrels look great in person. On the 30" tire shootout I looked at the pics of them and they looked like rounded baloon tires that wernt aggressive at all. Your pic makes them look mean

I noticed the same thing in the shootout pics. I was a little hesitant whether to order them or the 30" Big Horns....until I saw the Mongrel in person. I was pretty much sold after that! I like the fact that they resemble the older Goodyear MTR tire for Jeeps.

The crummy part with the Mongrel's is not a lot of places carry them yet. I think I found one other place that had them, but that was about it. I ended up getting these from SXS Performance for $170 / tire with free shipping. I didn't think that was a bad deal at all considering what some other places charge just for shipping alone.

I was pleased with them. It took a few days for them to ship the tires, but I think they were also getting ready for the Tierra Del Sol so that may have had something to do with it. Considering though, I got them within a week which was fine with me.

They aren't a name brand like Rigid, etc. A guy I used to buy a lot of Jeep parts from is a vendor for these lights ( come from China is all I know ) and he hooked me up with some sweet prices on them.

I don't do much night time riding, but wanted more light when I did. I couldn't justify the cost of buying a Rigid for what little I used them so these ones fit the bill! The guy I bought them from has had excellent results with these ones so I'm hoping I'll get some decent use out of them. All I know is they are flippin BRIGHT!

I just purchased a 12" LED off EBay (TuffStuff LED) probably china made. Rigid is just not in the budget right now. They claim 4500 lumen and it appears to be well made, couldn't pass it up for $150. I plan on hooking it up tonight, hopefully it works well

Well Santa showed up in his brown truck last night and dropped off a couple presents for me.

The pictures don't do these justice at all. They are truly sexy and that TIG welding is pure beautiful!

I was a tad bummed though....the coilovers didn't show up. Not sure why that is, but if I don't see them in another day or two I might have to make a phone call. Now I just need to get them painted up and let the fun begin.
