Belt Issues

Hey guys! I have an issue I have been trying to diagnosis for a while now. My old Teryx did it and now I am experiencing it with my new one. I currently have a 2016 Teryx 4 with Superatv 6" lift, 4" portals, and JBS work on my clutch. I run either 32" intimidators or 36" terminators. (I also have a '14 clutch and secondary that I run when going to mud parks) My old machine was a 2012 Teryx 4. First let me say that my machine is a beast for slow mudding or crawling. The issue I am having is that my belt will overheat and start to separate if I drive at high speeds for any length of time. I have attached some pictures of the belt I replaced today. I usually have the belt break before I know it has separated, but I caught this one in times so basically I am asking if this is normal or is there an issue that I can fix? Thanks again for all you guys help.

Danny

Have you contacted JBS?

Not directly. I don't think it is his clutch work that is causing it. It does it with both clutches... I was kind of wanting to know if anyone else has the issue I have...

Do you ride it in high or low. That could be your problem. It could be slipping the belt in high and causing it to burn up. Im not huge on cvts and dont know to much about them but if you are having a constant problem with both clutches that could be your problem. Also make sure your clutches move freely and are clean. Im sure you know that.

A other thing to look for is that your intake and output is clean and free flowing. It just looks like belt temps are getting to hot. Even if one side flows but the other does not then it wont cool efficently. That is my suggestion.

You also may want to look into a belt temp gauge. I hear that razorback makes a good one that is a lazer temp sensor that you have pointed on the belt. That may help narrow down issues in the future.

I second this idea. How many miles/hours are you getting out of your belts before they get like this? Thats a lot of belt damage

Send them in and I will go over them to see what I can find.no charge..if you don't separate the primary and get the old belt out of the bushings it will just keep doing it cause it's not moving freely...make sure the duct work is not covered with something and isn't getting enough air..

I would have suggested you change you intake ,but you said the 12 also did it.The 12 gets air from under dash where as the newer gets air from top of engine. I changed my 17 intake to the 12 to get cooler air.

Sorry guys, I was out of town fishing! Lol my '16 has the '12 intake for the CVT. I did that as soon as I bought it. The belt that just let go was maybe 7 months old. I honestly think I could put a new belt on it and run it at almost WOT and I believe the belt would shred again after about 8-10 miles. I think it is a heat issue. I am going to probably put a fan on the intake side and may also get a belt temp sensor...

I was really just seeing if anyone else out there has had this issue

Think low gear and vForce John clutch mod
On my 2005 arcticat 650LE with the Vtwin kawi engine I had the same problem with smoking and shredding belts, which totally went away after having vForce John modify my clutches and disable engine braking.
Before I burned through belts like through 10 dollar Bill's.
That being said, in my experience, I recommend a sensible use of lower gear which is a must for the 650LE
My new 2017 Teryx2 will get the same treatment this winter.
I drive by ear finding the sweat spot where the engine just purrs along, trail permitting

Most of the Issues I've seen with belts seperating that quick were intake issues. Even found a taterchip bag sucked down a snorkled intake tube found after eating up 4 new belts at about the same average mileage 8 to 15 miles per belt.

Keeter,

That is definitely worth looking at.. I guess that is my next step. I will be tearing it apart this weekend.
