2017 teryx4 le fuel gauge issues

So got a 2017 teryx4 le few weeks back and really enjoy it. 784 miles so far. The fuel gauge always flashes full or empty though. Here is what I have done/want to do:

I only use premium since it may sit for a week or two when I can ride. I check the wire harness connector, nothing burnt/bent, no rust or unusual discoloration. I cant really see the fuel gauge device inside the tank to see if the float is stuck. I plan on doing the fuel vent mod as mine is vented to the frame like older models. I am also unable to find a wire diagram. I am wondering what else you guys think I should do. I have not called the powersport places to see if it would qualify as a warranty claim. I did find a recall that was for many 2017 teryx/mule/teryx4 for fuel thing that cracks but when I type my vin is does not apply.

What else would you guys try/do before calling a local shop for possible warranty issue? Everything else seems to function and work great but the gauge is always flashing empty or reading full. I have shaken the thing hard and driven on bumpy roads hoping the float was stuck but no luck.

feedback appreciated on what to check/try next.

wondering if mine slipped through the cracks and is semi related to the fuel gauge? Also if its related. there is MASSIVE vacuum OR pressure in the fuel tank. When I take the cap off huge air sound but I not sure how to see if its vapor pressure or vacuum etc.

The recall was for the black steel ring that holds the fuel pump/fuel gauge assembly in the tank. I have personally never seen or heard of the condition you are describing, but it does sound electrical to me. I would think a stuck float would give you the same reading all the time. Maybe check the connector on the back of the meter?

Wont lie I haven't made any progress. Called the place I bought it from and they said drop it off anytime at least 30 minutes before they close and they'll check it out and see if its warranty related etc. I have my wifes friend coming this Wednesday from the East Coast so probably not this weekend, but next I'll drop it off at the Kawasaki dealer and I will update when they let me know. Sorry for the delay. I always hatge finding a thread and then never learning what the issue was.

Im not keen on taking the dash apart and from checking the connectors on everything I can get by hand, no corrosion, burnt contacts/pins, and no rubbed through spots on any wiring I can. I did score a pdf service manual from a 2018 teryx and it seems if its not a bad ground they usually have to replace the whole fuel pump because the float is built into the assembly unit. Im praying its not something I have to pay for outside a small warranty fee or something.

Will update soon as I can.

Update to keep thread. Dropped off the teryx4 at the dealer Saturday July 27th 2019. They haven't even touched it yet... Said I was 2-3 behind other UTVS because they are down a tech. Really hoping to get a call by Friday (tomorrow) to see if they had a chance to at least give me an guestimate on what they think it is or found. Summers are short here in North Idaho and I already had to drive almost 3 hours round trip to drop it off lol.

Well this Saturday Aug 10, 2019 im picking up the teryx4 and it hasn't been touched. They told me last week I was 3rd in line to get seen and when I called yesterday they said "oh man you wanna pick it up. you're like 3rd in line to get checked out..." I said I appreciate it but you told me that exact same thing last week and Im just gonna fill it up every ride and maybe bring it back in the winter when I can't ride as much. I live in a small town and there aren't that many side by sides compared to some of even the neighboring counties but I can't wait for 2 weeks to not even have them touch it. Maybe im the rude one I don't know but im gonna ride it and keep an eye on the fuel and worst case there is another Kawasaki dealer about 45 min past where I bought this one and in the winter I'll try them out.

Im gonna check for grounds, and maybe pull the dash to see if the display is messed up but every other feature on the display works so im feeling more its the fuel pump assembly unit. Seem the teryx4 is like three pieces in one vs replacing different parts on other vehicles etc. I'll keep the thread updated.

Where are you located? Which dealer can't fit you in for what can be such an easy fix. I'm in Spokane...

I have a 2015 Teryx 4 and love it...

Well another update lol. Apparently the service manager looked at it right before I came to pick it up and they are ordering the fuel pump/float/sending unit on Monday. And it’s covered under warranty. I am thankful they looked at it but all they had to do was let me know.

I ended up taking the Teryx4 back anyways and he said he’ll call me when the fuel pump unit arrives and they’ll install it asap and run a quick diagnostic to verify.

There are only two very close to me. One in Spokane and on in post falls. I didn’t go to Spokane because they were 45 min further.

I feel they took forever but they are at least tying to get it done now.

I did take my brother in law and two nephews for a nice 30 mile ride yesterday though so that was a fun trip. Ad hopefully it sounds like next weekend I can drop it off and they said they’ll fix it ASAP

Good look with the repairs. Sorry for your anguish, it is tough in the Pacific Northwest as we have such a short riding season. On the flip side my 2017 has been bullet-proof so far.

Appreciate it.

Also to update the thread they called me today to say the pump was in. Saturday Aug 17,2019 at 9am dropping it off. They are playing it safe with words and not sure if it will be fixed in a couple of hours that day or if I need to come back Wednesday (the earliest I can next to pick it up). Little frustrated with almost four weeks for a warranty repair but my diesel and time still comes out cheaper than almost $700 for a fuel pump unit so just being positive hahaha.

I'll report back when its done and hopefully guide someone else in the future if they experience a fuel gauge read out issue.

Not that big of a job changing the fuel pump assembly, SHOULD be easily done in a couple hours. Hopefully that will solve your problem!

Got the side by side today about 3:30pm. Gas gauge seems to be reading accurately now. I’m gonna fill it up and take a nice ride tomorrow and see how it does.

Overall 3 out of 5. They took 3 weeks two two just even look at it and then ordering parts. But, they fixed it and Kawasaki’s warranty covered it. I kind of wished they would have let me take it home to work on it but I get it with liability and stuff.

Their parts are only a little more expensive then rocky mountain atv so that was nice in case I need something ASAP.

Will post up once more and hopefully this will just guide someone else down the road to just replace the fuel pump assembly unit lol.
