I am looking for advice on what might have happened with a 2017 Teryx 2 seater, that was running great! Then one day, the vehicle would not start by simply turning the key. The starter motor does turn over the engine, but it does not seem to be firing in the cylinders. In the past the vehicle would start quickly with a just the slight turn of the key. The vehicle is about 3 years old, and as about 1500 miles, with very limited off road use.
However, when the throttle(gas pedal) is now opened about 25%, the engine will start, but it sounds very rough, as if it is possibly only firing on one cylinder(which is a just a guess). When the throttle(gas pedal) is released then engine will not idle and dies.
Panel Indicator Lights:
When the ignition key is turned to the on position, the panel shows a flashing oil light, and a solid EPS light. Then the throttle is opened about 25% and the engine is started, the engine is slow to start, and runs very rough, (it runs but something is definitely not working correctly) then the oil pressure light goes off...indicating there is oil pressure, and the EPS light also goes off...indicating that the ECU may be functioning normally(just a guess) Also the check engine light is not on before or while the engine is running....possibly indicating the ECU is getting all of the correct electrical signals.
My initial guesses at what might be happening are:
1. Bad or very dirty spark plug(s) in the cylinders...possibly caused by engine oil blow by.
2. Bad coil not allowing one cylinder to fire correctly.
3. A possible fuel injection issue, fuel-air mixture not getting to one or more of the cylinders...possible bad fuel injection sensor.
I have seen a similar situation on certain motorcycles(Honda XR650) when the CDI module has a solder joint failure....the engine is very difficult to start, and then runs very rough. Does the Teryx have a similar electronics module that could be causing this problem?
I am not very familiar with fuel injected Kawasaki engines, and would welcome any comments that folks might have on the possible causes.
