Badlands model# 68144, 5000 lb.winch install questiin

I installed my Badlands 5000 lb. winch on my 2014 Teryx LE using the KFI mount. When I started looking things over to figure out a wiring plan I noticed that one of the wire connection posts was just touching the machine's front guard. I did some reading and learned that this isn't uncommon. There seems to be two ways people deal with this. They either hammer a dent into the guard or move the post on the winch. Moving the post doesn't seem to be an option with this model 68144. If it can be done I'd be interested in hearing how. I really don't want to hammer the dent in if I can avoid it but at this point it seems the only option.

I like your set up. I would destroy it wheeling mounted back there. Good thing it detaches! I have seen many setups like that on trucks n jeeps over the years. I always wondered why ya cant install a roller and run winch cable back through conduit to front or rear and use it that way??
I have the round tube bumper ..I cut out the two center mounts and was able to raise up my winch above the exhaust ..last winter I burnt a winch up .. :wink

If you look closely at my second picture I have indexed the exhaust away from the winch :wink
I tried that but I was getting exhaust fumes in the cab . so I cut the bumper mounts and raised the winch up and I like it higher keeps it out of most of the mud .
Thanks. I guess I need to lift the cap up a little bit more before turning it. When I felt the spring pressure I got nervous thinking if I raised it further I was going to have a mess to deal with.

I guess I'm not one of the lucky ones with multiple bolt lications. I made the complete cycle and the only place the cap seats is in the original position. It sucks but I guess it's time to dent the metal.

Maybe so but I will tell ya its probably possible if ya can rotate it the holes are likely there. It was very hard for me to find new holes for bolt to go into. If ya are back at stock measure and mark 90degree on case. then be patient and gentle. Why I said 2 people job maybe. I struggled to find tiny holes by feel but I did after marking aprox location and try try again. This was a TSC winch though. I have both badlands and tsc travellar on machines. So similar in design?
Even if the holes are there I doubt it would matter. The cap will not seat except in that original position. It leaves a gap between the housing in the cap in any other spot. I can't see it but this appears to be a detent there. It appears that the detent forces you to put the cap in that position and no other, probably for alignment in assembly but I don't know.

Sorry to read it didn't work for ya.

Like I mentioned earlier in this thread, mine had no way to clock it either. I just couldn't remember what the issue was exactly.

What did you end up doing?
Buddy just installed this Badlands 5k on his T4. No kfi adapter. He drilled 4 new holes and bolted it. I think he said bolts too short so new bolts. It is slightly passenger side to clear bumper contact. Worked out just fine for him and it looks fine. He said he could NOT clock it either. For the record the TSC 4500 can be clocked, I did it.

Yeah I’ve watched multiple videos and read multiple reviews and people were beating in the front bumper to clear the terminal and stuff and I just couldn’t do that. Sadly...I got my badlands 5000 for $156 out the door tax and all and found out it couldn’t be clocked. Took it back. Found the Champion on Amazon for $20 more with the post already in the vertical position and it also came with wireless remote. Great deal. I only plan on using it for a snow plow so hey not bad.

I hate to admit it but I still haven't installed it. I went on and on trying to figure out an alternative to denting the bumper. Ridiculous I know but I kept hoping I'd find another way and I had the winch too long to return it. I went out and stared at it many times hoping for a magical answer to suddenly come to be but no luck. I've had the winch on and off multiple times looking at mouting alternatives without success. My son and grandson torture me about it not being installed every chance they get! I deserve it LOL.

I just purchased a Badlands 5000 winch in March of 2023, got a great deal on it at $159. Although I don't remember at the moment what my winch model number is, I was able to "clock it" to move the terminals. At first, I thought it was just the "cap" with the terminals that had to be "clocked". But it ended up being that whole side of the winch (cap and cylinder). If you pull it out just far enough (like 1/4 inch, while keeping the tension), you will be able to see pre set bolt points you can re insert the 2 long 8 mm bolts back in to. It worked for me, I wish you luck. I will be honest; I was VERY nervous as I have never done this type of thing before. Now the winch in working great! No denting of my bumper on my 2019 Teryx 4. Adding my 2 cents here as this thread helped me make the decision to just go for it.
