Belt Question - 2014-2015 models vs. newer

295 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  SageCrispin
The Kawie Microfiche calls for a different OEM part number on the 2014-2015 models than than on the 2016+ models. Do any of you fellas know if the the newer 2016+ belts will work on the 2014-2015 models?

I'm thinking that nothing else really changed and they may have just changed the material...which required a part number change. We don't have a 2014-2015 around to test the theory.

Thats a very good question. I wish I was qualified to answer it.
Since you don't have a 2014-2015 around to test the theory, perhaps you could get one of each belt and physically compare the two?

Pre 2016 belt is part# 59011-0040 and 2016 + belt is part# 590011-0043. The 2016 + belt is .032" wider and a little longer. Pre 2016 you could remove the belt without removing the clutches but after 2016 there is not enough gap between the clutches and housing to squeeze it through. They are Kevlar belts and really not a good idea to twist and stretch them that much anyway to remove without taking the clutches off. I had a pre 2016 on my 2016 machine temporarily until the dealer got the right belt in and it worked because it was slightly shorter in length so therefore tighter in fit, but I think that a 2016+ belt on a pre 2016 machine might cause slippage due to its longer length.

Beautiful explanation. Thank you! Very informative.
The only thing I question is the comment about being able to remove the belt without removing the clutches on the pre-2016 models. I thought on the first gen Teryx (pre-2014 2 seaters) you could do this but not on any of the current generation models? I know the 2014 factory service manual states to remove the clutches and that is how I did mine and many others have (when I did a search several years ago on this all I found was people saying to remove the clutches). Guess I never personally tried it but will probably slap a another new belt on my '15 sometime soon. I've replaced the belt on a couple of Polaris' and just spread the sheeves and roll the belt on and off, but just never even tried that on the Teryx. To be honest, if you have an impact to take the clutch nuts off and the secondary is not seized on the shaft it's probably quicker and easier to just pull the clutches.

Yeah, the removeable belt was sometime before then. On my 2014 we had to pull the sheaves to get the belt off. Interesting the number change wasn't until 2016 though.
