Hard to start and won't idle

1714 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  achi
2012 teryx 750, will not stay idling when first started, when it dies it then backfires when started. Changed plugs, air filter, ran injector cleaner through it. Runs fine when warmed up, no problem backfire after it warms up. Any thoughts or experience with this?

Have you checked the fuel filter? Maybe the sock on the pump siphon?
No, it runs and idles so good after it warms up, fuel filter didn't cross my mind. I thought if I try was stopped up it wouldn't run at all
The much talked about dirty or restricted fuel filter usually does not cause starting or idle problems. It also won't go away after the engine is warmed up.

Have the valve clearances been checked? Sounds like possible loss of compression due to a tight valve - then clearances loosen up when warm.

Dosent make sense to me, when warming up the material expands, and should even tighten it up, also i think thats why exhaust valves clearence is always bigger
