Went to WindRock a few weeks ago ( first time out since the fuel vent mod ) and we kept smelling gas. Wasn't constant but every 20-30 minutes we smelled it strong. We gave it a thorough check and found nothing wrong or leaking. At the end of the day we discovered that the end of the vent tube had gas on it. Then noticed a stain on the plastic where it had dripped and dried. Before I did the mod, I read every post I could find about it. Then chose one to copy ( sorry if I copied yours and didn't give ya props ). Everything went as planned for the install. I installed the check valve, then a clear fuel filter and then looped the hose up the rear of the seat and back down the other side. I don't understand how that could allow fuel to escape but I'm no rocket scientist either.
I did fill the tank up before we rode but it was still doing it at 1/2 tank. Here are the pics. Let me know what ya think

I read a few other posts that said if they routed the line in back of the seat the guys smelt gas at times?

I can understand maybe a little smell or something but can't understand how gas gets all the way thru that hose to the end. It has about a 24" rise above the tank.

Earlier in this thread I talked about the check valve being a pressure release valve also, But what about the gas cap it also relieves pressure doesn't it? This summer when the water is low and the temperature is hi my gas tank mod is going back to stock but I'm leaving the tube in place so I can switch from one to the other

Do you think it would help to continue running the line back to the original spot on the frame? With the loop on the seat it would kind of create its own check valve against water.
Sounds good in theory but I will have gas going into my frame then ? Wouldn't be the end of the world but i would really like to figure out why gas is coming out before I change anything.

I bought the parts for this mod. Actually before i even bought a t4. But i dont drive in water, mud or sand. Only hard packed desert trails. Do i even need the mod?

IMO tree, YES. I also only ride in the dry stuff (Dry SoCal), no rain, no mud ever. I changed mine out just to make sure and this is what it looked like:

Hard pack can still generate dust (or nasty silty hanging dust) and that is about the only stuff that could of made my filter dirty.

I added the inline filter and routed my hose back to the stock frame location. Have not had any issues with this location.

Mine is mounted same as yours except it is concealed behind the plastic of the seat. I agree as stated above the check valve has to be bad. I have never had any gas odors inside the T4

I researched this fuel tank mod and deceided to install the 150 micron clear filiter back into the fuel tank rail pipe for the following reasons.

The fuel tank rail pipe is higher then the passendger seat so water is not going to get up there unless the cab is flooded and I have no plans of that.

The only place water or dust can get into the pipe is an 1/8" hole on each side of the pipe. You could tape a peice of a dust mask over that and problem solved if there is even a problem at all. I see some of the mods and guys are getting too carried away and may be inducing problems to the exhaust of the check valve that blows tank pressure out and dose not draw air into the tank...

Below is a pic of my mod that is clean, neat, and functional.. just sharing...

That is exactly how I installed mine too.

any new updates on what others did on this. I plan on doing this mod this weekend. Routing up by the airbox--it doesnt get wet in a hard rain or wash? Have others have great luck doing wha the OP has done.

Tank Mod.

I routed mine up to the mouth of the air intake in the dash. I then pulled the grommet out of the frame and used it at the intake to attach it. (Driiled a hole and inserted the grommet in the side of the tube. Works great and is at the highest point (as in where the engine is supplied with air. No need to go any higher than that. IMO.

You have put the intake for the air into the fuel tank in a vacuum in the air intake it may give issues on long rides.

i ran my fuel breather line up the cage just under the roof, put 2 loops in it and a fuel filter on the end..NO plastic to remove, filter has no chance of getting mud/water in it now.

I then ran the rear diff breather up the other side with same setup, because it is even lower than the fuel vent and also stuck into the frame.
i didn't bother with the front diff breather because it is at the height of the air box.
