I would say it is noticeably quieter, but have a question. Does anybody know if there is some sort of noise muffling blanket that could be cut to fit on top of the center console? Obviously it would need to be somewhat water/mud resistant, but would be awesome for family/easy trail rides and could be slipped off when it's time to get down in the mud and water. Something like the material they make water heater blankets from?? Just trying to gather some thoughts and ideas.

I used the koolmat out of Texas. But I didn't glue it. I removed seats all the plastics around console and seats front to rear. Shifter. Your left with a big cross. Covered the entire cross floor to floor front and rear under seats over gas tank etc. Used foil tape and wrapped it like a Christmas present. Cut three sides out under drivers seat to lift up and check oil. Then put plastics back on and pushed pins through were needed.50% noise and heat reduction. The pins on the knee pads are easily removed by pushing pin in center with small pick and they will release. I didn't take pictures sorry.
This might be something like you are talking about. I thought about this in addition to fatmat I have already done but a little concerned that air will not be able to circulate like it should. But Not sure on that one.

After re reading your post I realize I may have misunderstood your post. Are you talking about something to go on the outside of the as tics?

No, I actually meant on top, like an armrest. Could even get really cocky and put some storage pockets in it!

Yeah, like that, you're quick on the edit!!!

Yeah that may not be a bad idea. Especially if it were some type of water resistant foam. Comfort and noise reduction. Let me know when you have it done lol;)

Just checked eBay, there are some sound deadening blankets made for insulating rooms (think garage bands). I may try to find a store where I can tiuch and feel one, and if I think it may work, recruit my mom in law and her sewing skills! Just wish I had it already headin to northern wisconsin and possibly the up of Michigan this weekend to check out some north woods trails.

noise I dont like and heat I like in the fall and winter in tn

I don't like the noise I get from the teryx 4 but like the heat in the fall and winter so I do not know the way to go? I did read some one say they were going to add a marine blower and that sounded like a idea what you guys think? I ride MT trails and some rocks at slow speeds and talking to someone is rough. I have not used a intercom before in my teryx4 so I don't want to spend the cash till I try one with the type of riding I do. If I found a used one I would give it a try and a sound system is not my thing but It could be.

Thanks

I live in Alabama so not a concern for me but if I lived up north I would retrofit an automotive style heater coil box under the hood. I think it would be pretty easy to do. I would be concerned about pumping hot air from center console area into cab area for fear of carbon monoxide poisoning. Just my .02

I have been watching this post for a while and finally decided to do this mod, but wanted to be able to post some actual before and after results. I installed the rattle trap fat mat (the 80 mil thick) and reinstalled the factory stuff. I only had enough to do the center console between the driver and passenger seats. I borrowed a decibel meter from work and here are the actual results:

Before:
81 dB average @ idle
97 dB average @ 1/2 throttle

After:
74 dB average @ idle
95 dB average @ 1/2 throttle

While driving it around the neighborhood about (20-30 mph) the belt whine has a noticeable lower frequency, not so high pitched. Same with the actual motor noise while driving.

IMO this product defiantly helps. I was expecting a lot lower dB readings but I am still happy with the results.

Wonder what readings you'd get doing all the plastics. Not bad for just doing center piece. I did everything I could get my hands on and once again, I am very happy with the results. Thanks for the post!

I wish I knew more about decibals, I've little point of reference so understanding the difference of 10db is somewhat escaping me.
Just for a reference a normal conversation happens at about 65-68 dB.
Just sitting here being as quiet as possible I can read 50 dB the lowest
An average automobile runs at about 86-89 dB
Jet engines run at about 120 dB

I started the process of installing the Fatmat Rattle Trap. I'm installing it on all the plastic under the front seats, on the plastic that goes over the rear hump, and I installed some on the outside of the metal cover for the dipstick access. I also stuck some to the metal panel that is inside the center hump in the back. I ran out of the material so just ordered some more. 10sq ft doesn't go far. Just ordered 25 more.

Question: I was thinking of sticking two pieces together and just setting them under the driver and passenger seats to block the sound coming out of the opening over the gas tank on the passenger and the opening over the driver side dipstick area. I was thinking I would stick some foam to the top side of it, so when the bottom seat cushion is snapped in, it would hold it in position, but still allow me to remove the pull out the Fatmat cover.

Do you think there would be any issues covering these openings up? Do you think it's using these for air cooling?

You know I was thinking about doing the same thing, I don'tsee it being a p roblem at all let us know how it turns out for you

I just finished doing mine also and thought about those two areas. I was thinking about a piece of plastic with a latch of some sort or push pin although I hate them. Then add the rattle trap. I didn't put any on the metal that is under the drivers seat or the metal over the exhaust tunnel I was worrier about heat. I just finished it Sunday and I have to say I was not that impressed. It was quieter sitting in the garage but driving with it didn't seam quieter. Could just be me. There was also a smell and I'll assume it's the glue heating up and has to cure. I had enough to do more and wondered if I should add a second layer to the center area?

I did all the plastics (front, rear, middle) and nothing short of ear muffs is going to make this thing quiet but I thought it was a noticeable improvement. Before I did it it was hard to hear the stereo while cruising (low speeds) without cranking it up. My wife even said she noticed a small improvement. Too it helped with the amount of heat this thing puts out. I like the idea of covering the holes under seats but not with push pins. Maybe Velcro or something of that nature:)

Yea velcro would work I bet, that hole above the gas tank i was thinking that it has to quiet down some of the noise if you cover it because of the cvt belt housing making all that racket

Something that I am going to try eventually for the sound dampening is spray rubberized undercoating. This stuff is designed for sound dampening and heat reduction and doesn't require a whole lot of prepping. You can get it for about 4 or 5 bucks a can. As soon as I get some time that's my plan to help reduce noise and heat. I don't have a roof yet so its unclear for me if the noise will be tolerable or not until I get one. I will let yall know how it turns out.
