I have a quick question on one of you other FXT owners. I have about 7 hours on mine and when i get to about 15 mph or higher it has a small rubbing sound. Has anyone else noticed theirs making a rubbing sound?
I've never noticed a rubbing sound, does the type of terrain matter? Does it do it in 2/4wd or both? If you can give me some more specifics of what you are hearing i will definately shake mine down & see if I can pinpoint what you're talking about. Where does it seem to be coming from?

It is around 13 mph it starts like a wobble / rubbing sound and continues up to higher speeds. I tried it in 2wd and 4wd along with and without difflock in the rear. If I had to guess it would be coming from the front maybe a drive shaft bushing. Im going to try and over inflate the tires and see if that changes anything.
On a side note I do have a bottle of flat fix in each tire so that might have something to do with it. Also I will see if I can capture it on video when I get home today.

I have had mine for a little over a month and have not had any issues but after I got it home from dealer the tire pressure was way low. the fix a flat may be your issue

Well I had some time so here is what I am talking about

also this sound goes away in 4WD so I am thinking this is a break in sound and not something to worry about. Here is a slightly longer vid with 2wd and 4wd.

So who thinks this is in the transfer case and just needs to break in some?

Those new Mules look awesome! Last year I ended buying a Ranger Crew 800 instead of a Teryx 4 (which I preferred) because I needed the bench seat and the big box . Man, I wish they would have came out with this last year because I'd have one right now! My brother bought a Lime Green Teryx 4 and it's been awesome. My Ranger on the other hand has been at the dealer on and off for 10 weeks now while they try to figure out why it burns up rear inner CVs every ride (stock by the way). Anyways, I'm really interested in the FXT, but I was wondering if anyone knows how deep you can go with it? I don't go out looking for water but by living in Northern Ontario, it's hard to go anywhere without crossing a creek, river or swamp. Thanks!

Mine doesnt make that sound either, sounds like the tires humming to me...Oh well I would recommend keeping your records straight & documenting everytime you talk to the shop about it. If it turns out to be something more & stuff breaks, it will help to have everything organized when pushing for the 3 yr warranty to cover it.

The air intake is below the rear seat in the battery box. I havent had mine in real deep water, but I would feel comfortable taking it through 24" or so of water. Im not saying I wouldnt try anything deeper, it would depend on the circumstances. But i dont see how you could hurt it in 24" unless you stop, throw the anchor out and leave it running, then maybe you would suck some water into it. As lons as your moving along I would say you could go through much deeper.

Horton, nice job on the video. I have the same noise issue with my rig. I don't think it is a break in thing; I have over 300 miles on mine now and the noise is still present. So far this is the only issue I have with the machine. To me the noise is coming from the front half of the machine like something making contact with a driveline component. It will be at the local dealer soon and I will be getting them to look into it - will let you know if I find out anything.

yeah i cant wait to see that one when it gets done! I put in a Blue Sea fuse block under the front hood to run accessories off of, including my LED interior light strips, that turned out awesome. I also put in a Kawasaki OEM horn kit, which if anyone decides to do, it isnt necessary to take the whole front of the grill apart like the directions tell you to! I still like the mule a whole lot & would buy it again for sure.the pins that the doors hinge on have small steel washers in them & they rattle somewhat. Im going to take them apart and put some delrin washers in there, hopefully that will take care of the slight rattling. I have 210 miles and exactly 20 hrs on it so far. Im also fabricating aluminum skid plates for it. It comes with plastic skid plates. The OEM Kaw skid plates seem outrageous to me $ wise. I can weld aluminum & have a plasma cutter, and a full sheet of 3/16" 5052 for about $100 from the local fab shop. That will be my next mod.
Edrow, most of my spare time has been tied up with moose hunting this fall. After that I plan to size things up for some minor mods. The door rattle will be one of the first. I have been running over some sketchy trails and the Mule has performed extremely well, but I am a little concerned about rock strikes when I have a moose on board (assuming my hunting luck turns around) - if it is a problem I might be looking at skid plate upgrades too. I have seen on other boards that a lot of folks are using a material that is used for dump truck liners, I believe the acronym starts with U. Apparently the stuff is super durable and it slides over rocks where the aluminum will tend to stick on bare rock, plus the aluminum will dent where the other stuff does not. I haven't gone into it in terms of getting prices etc. Please keep us posted on how things go with your skid plate mods.

Mule Storage

Anyone who has taken the seat off can see that there is a huge space under the seat. Kawi sells a tote for about $400 (Canadian), which is too much money for a tote, even if it is purpose built. I took a bit of scrap 3/4 inch plywood and made a deck that rests on the square stock and notched it to fit into the flat bar side supports which keeps if from moving. I used two pieces for the "floor". Next I put a piece of plywood to serve as a vertical barrier between the gas tank and the main open area - I screwed this piece onto the floor pieces. This all clears the components below and can be taken out in less that 5 minutes if there is a need to access anything under it.
Next I did the smaller opening on the driver's side. As you can see when you look at it, this smaller opening goes right through to the ground so I put a back piece and a side piece toward the main section to keep mud and water out. While I don't do deep water I am into a lot of water on the trails from wash outs, mud, boggy areas, stream crossings etc and this side compartment has stayed dry with 300 miles of use.
Total cost to me, was the electricity to cut up the material. If you don't have the materials, you can do it with a 1/2 sheet of plywood or similar stock and a half dozen screws. You will end up with about double the storage area the Kawi accessory will give you. I ran a cable lock through the handle of the saw and the seat frame work since thieves find chainsaws to be quite attractive - since everything is under the seat it will be out of sight which is likely our best defence from theft.
I keep rope, 16" chain saw, gal of chainsaw gas, chain oil, rain gear, hand saw, cordless reciprocatiing saw, tarp in there on a regular basis plus there is lots of room to put extras like lunches, bottled water etc. Anyone with chainsaw experience knows that they leak bar oil and can be messy; cure for this - take the plastic storage case and cut the top off it. Keep the bottom half for the saw to sit in; keeps your storage area clean and keeps the saw stable.
The uses for this storage space are limited only by the imagination and the nature of your trip. Easy to fit table top BBQ and cooler full of brown pops down there too .... just sayin' :)

Man I'd love to go moose hunting, thats awesome! Ive done some research into the material you're talking about, I think it's UHMW polyethylene. I've spent most of my spare time bowhunting whitetails lately and I've not started on my skid plates yet. I'm seriously considering using UHMW, McMaster-Carr sells it by the sheet. Depending on what size & shipping costs, it looks like I can get it to my door for around $200. I'm thinking about how I want to set up the underseat storage area also. I agree, $400 is more than I can see spending for their container.

Well the dealer listened to it and said it was tire wear. That kind of makes since but I have a feeling it could be something else.
Horton, after paying a little more attention to your video & noticing you were driving on grass, I have to take back what I said about tire wear. I do not have that sound with mine, and hope you can get it figured out. It sounds like Joe55 may be on the right track. Hopefully someone can help you guys figure it out.

ProArmor also has a under the seat LOCKING storage box out. It is about $300 but they do offer some forums 10% off. It is a bit overpriced but I really likes the locking feature and don't really have the time to build something up right now. It was on backorder but I am expecting it in the next few weeks. Once it arrives I can take photos and give a short review if anyone is interested.

X 2 on the ProArmor box. Nice looking product, much better than the current Kawi accessory, IMO. A lot of riders will find the locking feature very useful for peace of mind. Still have the ability to develop the opening on the driver's side as well which would be handy for rope, winch accessories, water bottles or small cooler bag.
That said, I'll be sticking with my current set up. So far it is working well for me.
