The stock steel wheels come with washers. I would use them even on the Aluminum wheel so they torque easier and come off with less of an issue. Are you using the stock lock nut?

 

These do not appear to be the stock nuts. They look like the itp ones. I bought my teryx with the aftermarket wheels and purchased these stock wheels recently.

 

A captured lug nut will not be deep enough on the stock steel wheel without a washer.

 

Yeah, its not quite deep enough. I just wasn't sure if it was safe or not to use washers. I've never used washers on any of my rigs.

 

Buy a set of stock lug nuts if you will be switching back and forth...

Yeah, i really dont like the idea of using washers but i cant seem to find some factory lugs anywhere other than $6 a piece from places online

If the stud holes are recessed to accept a tapered lug nut I wouldn't use washers on the outside. I think it helps take the slack out between the stud and hole. If you have to use washers I would put them on before the wheel. Does that make since?

The stud holes are flat on both my stock wheels and my itp wheels. My itp lug nuts would work fine for my stock wheels but they are closed and too short. So if i use washers on the outside, the washers sit flat against the wheel and the lug nuts sit flat against the washers.

 

Just put some hard washers on it. there thicker than regular washers and should do the trick.

 

I have oem wheels (steel) and just put on some oem LE aluminum wheels tonight and on parts diagram and the service manual show a 12.1x25x1.6 washer between the lug nut and wheel.

Not sure why ? I've never seen washers used there before.
