so after reading through all this what seems to be the best way to do this. Any filter's better than others?

Any filter is better than nothing! Don't put to much thought into it, just put any disposable type see through filter on it and enjoy!

I think the valve may require a certain amount of pressure to open it. Mine also has pressure on tank when you remove the fill cap after trailering or driving. But have noticed when in rough terrain and stopping to look at map you will smell strong odor of fresh gas. Anyone else noticed this. At first I thought I busted something but got out and took cap off and pressure released. I will have to check service manual. Tip for knee pad rivits take a pick or small Phillips and push in on center of rivit to release.

Or just remove knee pads all together. That's what I did. Worthless IMO. Stayed dirty looking and one of the rivets came out so one rattled. I haven't missed them a bit. You may want to check your check valve for dirt to see if it's clogged

Just finished this mod and decided to install both the air breather under the hood and the clear in-line fuel filter under the seat.
In the first picture you can see that I put a small piece of the leftover hose between the in-line filter and the factory fuel line, I didn't like that when they were zip tied together they could eventually rub a hole in one or the other. I also gives me a spare piece of hose if I ever need one while out on the trail. Was worried that both filters may be a little too restrictive but so far everything performs just fine.

so are these the standard morotcycle ones or just an automotive style one you guys are getting?

Just finsihed installing my fuel mod. Ordered fuel line from Rocky Mountain ATV. It was $11 shipped. It is a 2007 Yamaha Grizzly 450 fuel tank line. Thanks Yamasaki for the heads up on the line! Super Easy to do!
No prob... The Yammi fuel line was meant for the T4!

OK done the fuel tank vent hose today. Relocated it up to breather area. Was going to just zip tie it off and got a great ideal. Why not run it in the breather box and use those fumes. I'm an auto tech and vehicals with emmision systems do this. Since its fuel injected it can compensate for the fumes. Found a brass threaded nipple in tool box drilled a hole in the side of breather box. Screwed nipple in and plugged hose up. Didn't install a filter just run GBE hose to box. If I get water or Mudd there the gas tank will be the least of my worries. Just another option for you to use.

Finally got time to do the fuel pump mod

I had my 4 year old son help me with this mod, got distracted and cut the fuel line. Felt like a total dumb@$$. So i now have another inline filter coming off the tank for now.

Just ordered a new fuel line, $85 mistake.
