Noise reduction help

I bought this teryx 4 as a combo machine (trail riding/hunting). For trailriding this thing is AWESOME! However, for hunting I am concerned about the noise. When driving it seems extremely loud even at low speeds. It seems that 15 mph has the lowest noise, but even at that speed we have to yell at each other to talk.

Does anyone have any experience with noise reduction. Does anything really work?

Yeah I know exactly what you mean. I bought mine for the same reason. As far as the noise goes... We may just be out of luck. I asked the same thing on here last month and no one knew of any way to quiet this thing down any. My be just the nature of the beast...

I'm not sure the T4 is that loud compared to other SXS's. My Rhino is all stock and just as loud as my all stock T4. My ex RZR 800 was quieter than both and had a FMF aftermarket exhaust. The exhaust really didn't make it louder, it just changed the exhaust note a bit. Maybe because you're sitting closer in the RZR, but, I never had a problem talking to or hearing the passenger.

The RZR motor is in the rear and the T4 is right between the driver and passenger as well as the CVT. I dont think there is any argument that the T4 is very loud in the cab. I dont think it is much louder then others outside however. Dont think there is much you can do other then remove the roof which I am not willing to do to quiet it down in the cab

im not sure how the harmonics are on your t4 but i had a problem with my
GOLIATH 6x6 which has a 42 hp racing briggs engine and what i did
was modify a redline revolt muffler and that did the trick..it has more
baffles inside but still flows at high rpm..you dont have to uses a redline muffler, but you could look at one a get an idea of what and how to build one
like i did.also i can now run up on whitetail deer and they cant here me
untill its too late...you could also try and modify a stock t-4 muffler and give it more flow but less noise ..
JUST MY TWO CENTS..

I agree with you on the cab noise issue, I bought one of the cab blankets that wrap under the seats and over the tunnel. That helped a little with the added benefit of adding storage and a pad for the armrest. However, if you listen while a Teryx drives by at around 10-12 mph it really isn't very loud.

I hear you, the T4 is by far the loudest utv I have driven. Its not muffler noise but drive train noise, its just flat out loud. Our rzr is much quieter and so were our rhino's. We installed a 4 seat intercom to talk and listen to the iPod to help drown out the interior noise. I wish there was a solution but I don't believe there is unfortunetly.

I haven't bought one yet but I've narrowed it down to the teryx4 or the can-am commander so I've been scanning both forums for a few weeks trying to get a handle on different problems with each. I'm leaning toward the teryx right now. If you check the commander forums you'll find they seem to have the same problem with complaints about excessive noise. lot's of theorys over there but no real conclusions.

My friend owns a Commander 800R and is constantly complaining about heat in the cockpit, comming from the console/cover that runs between the seats. Twice while riding with him (me in my T4, he was in his Commander), he asked me if I could feel alot heat from mine. He was shocked that I said no heat problems.

noise

One thing you could try is something they use on off road pre runner trucks and hot rods. there is a product called Dyno Mat and if you install it on the underside of all of the engine cove plastic it will help some.

good luck!

I was thinking about the noise issue in our Teryx and suddenly it hit me. This is a vehicle made to travel in 3+ feet of water (as well as elsewhere) and materials made to absorb sound are soft and porous. See where I'm goin' with this?

spray the under side of the plastic with lizard skinz. It helps with heat and noise.

Is lizard skinz available in a rattle can or would it be like doing LineX?

EDIT: Looks like it is not available in a rattle can. I wonder how challenging this would be to spray if you don't have access to a car lift to get the machine up in the air to spray the underneath?

in the engine compartment it will help keep the drone of the engine down. it does the same as dynamat but this stuff sprays on . also it will help the heat issue also wrapping the header pipes will cut out a lot of heat. i did my old yzf450 that way. it was a big help.

lizard skins has to be sprayed on with a special type of gun that they sell. it looks just like a paint gun. If I was doing it to mine i would take the parts off and spray them. The exhaust wrap will help a lot. my buddy has a t2 and every time he gets leaves and mud around the header pipe and muffler it smells like its going to catch on fire. since the exhaust wrap no more problems.

Exhaust header wrap. you can get it at almost any automotive store. You can even choose colors.
